Survey Shows Taxpayers Still Not Happy With GM Bailout - Are You Still Pissed?
News that the federal government is nearly $10 billion in the hole on its $49.5 billion bailout of General Motors Co. is a painful reminder of the U.S government’s takeover of the automaker several years later. Unfortunately, the outlook is not good for GM as a new consumer survey shows that lingering resentment of the bailout may be hurting sales.

The survey, sponsored by the National Legal and Policy Center, was conducted in Texas, the leading state by far for pickup truck sales. Pickups are important because they are one of the most lucrative segments of the automakers’ lines, meaning strong sales are essential to overall profitability.

GM is better than it was, but it is lapsing back into the bad old days. The Malibu is a terrible product. The SS is laughable. The Traverse/Acadia/Enclave are old and doddering. The all new pickups are really just the old pickups with minor changes. The Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Escalade are still gas guzzlers. The Cadillac Ciel and Elmiraj wait for approval despite great interest and great profit to be made. Opel and GM Korea should be one brand rather than two. The "cooperation" with Peugeot/Citroen is beyond foolish.

GM executives — INCLUDING RETIRED EXECUTIVES — should pay a 50% tax rate on their salaries and pensions until the government has been reimbursed for their FAILURE.

That sounds like a voice of reason. After all bad leadership and profit taking did them in.

pissed that Obamacare hadn't been implemented earlier, yes!

Our system of employer-supplied insurance which can be used as untaxed compensation is one of the major contributors to this situation. The Legacy costs were crippling.

That paired with the Military Industrial Complex artificially depressing fossil fuel costs, which promoted the SUV boom in the 90's...which caught up to GM in the form of a weak globally un-viable product line.

But let's all be chimp-brained, and get mad at Obama. It's much easier than looking at the contributing factors that got GM into the mess to begin with.

Did anyone notice that foreign manufacturers based in countries with socialized medicine and expensive gas weren't in the same boat as GM? Probably not.

Why the rush to sell shares back at a huge loss? If GM is doing that good, the government should atleast be waiting until shares approach break even. Of course, the government has lots of friends on Wall St who would love to pick up GM at a 50% discount to what they can get reselling them.
