LA AUTO SHOW: REAL LIFE Inside The Porsche Macan - Is This What You Expect From The Class Leader?

LA AUTO SHOW: REAL LIFE Inside The Porsche Macan - Is This What You Expect From The Class Leader?
Porsche is making a stab at the mass market with the new midsized Macan SUV.  But will they be able to pull it off?

I recall a great deal of skepticism when they broke ranks with the traditionalists and built the Cayenne.  Looking back at that decision we can now say they were pretty spot on, in spite of the critics.  Taking a look at the exterior it looks to be on the mark, and look through this interior I have to say they have a plan to dominate the segment.  What do you think?

Look at the guy sitting in the back seat, he's doesn't look that tall yet he hardly has any leg room

First reports say that the Macan is priced exactly like a Cayenne. FAIL!

No need for a report. You can go right to Porsche's web site and build and price it yourself.

The Cayenne starts at $49,600.

The smaller Macan starts at $49,900.

You're right, it makes no sense.

Base Cayenne is a 300HP woefully underpowered V6. Macan S is $49,900. I am guessing we will see a base Macan slot in under the Cayenne. In a vehicle that I am guessing is probably 800 pounds less than a Cayenne, this should provide twice the bang for the buck as the Cayenne. I priced one out and nicely equipped is about $61k.

LOVE IT. My new destination car to truck the kids around. My 2 kids are under 9, why do I need a full sized SUV? I hardly ever drive adults in the back, that's for my wife and her full sized minivan. A fun as hell car that has utility for kids and their crap like soccer equipment. Handles like crazy, awesome Burmester stereo system, I can take it skiing, camping or anywhere everywhere all year round. I'd get the diesel when it's available - 550+ mile range on one tank? Awesome.

Macan will be a HUGE HUGE hit for upwardly mobile couples with no kids or very young kids. Macan will steal from those who were going to buy an A7, Cayenne, X5 or ML, not because they needed the size but because the X3/GLK/Q5 lacked the prestige. Macan will seriously outsell the Cayenne. Many people bought Cayennes because there was no smaller alternative that carried the same prestige.
