VIDEO: CNET "Checks The Tech" Of The All-New Cadillac ELR, Tells The FULL Story

VIDEO: CNET
In the past two months the Cadillac ELR has taking some serious blows. Let's not fake it, the car has so far been an incredible disappointment to folks who were waiting for something groundbreaking.

There's good reason for this. Essentially, General Motors has largely repackaged the Chevrolet Volt into the Cadillac's sexier skin. And, yes, this is a problem in the world of Tesla Model S' that can do it all and ARE fully electric.

BUT we wouldn't be doing our job if we weren't objective. That's why we're going to show you this clip of an AutoSpies.com friend, CNET's Brian Cooley.

Cooley is the best in the business when it comes to giving consumers the download about a vehicle's technology. Watch below as he gives you more detail about the Cadillac ELR.

You could call it the Cadillac Volt, but that's only half the story

Yes it's nicer than a Volt. Yes it may have the equivalent oomph of 300hp, but $70K+ is still the deal breaker. That said, I'd take an ELR over a Tesla ANY day of the week. Tesla had ZERO experience designing and building cars prior to the current one (duct taping batteries in a Lotus is not engineering). I'd rather gamble on GM's quality rather than trust an utterly unproven car/brand with Tesla.

Aside from the Model S fires, which are attributable to objects striking the undercarriage, I'd say it's been so far so good.

Frankly, I applaud GM's effort on the Volt but the reality is the ELR has NO chance against the likes of the Model S.

None of the Tesla Model S units have been on the road long enough to have accurate data. What happens at 100K miles? What happens at 10 years? What happens as the batteries age? Building a car then declaring it brilliant a couple days later is not a logical assessment.
