Land Rover Unveils 2007 Defender, Pricing!!

Land Rover said on Tuesday that its 2007 Defender gets a new powertrain, as well as a revised interior with new seating. The vehicle is set for sale in Europe.

The '07 Defender gets a new 2.4-liter common-rail diesel engine with engine output rated at 120 hp, with more than 90 percent of peak power available from less than 2200 rpm to more than 4350 rpm. Torque output is higher than the outgoing engine, with 265 pound-feet delivered at 2000 rpm.

Land Rover says the new GFT MT 82 six-speed gearbox provides a "much wider ratio spread than before." Fuel economy ratings are not available and pricing has not been announced.

Changes to the vehicle's exterior have been minimized. But cabin changes are dramatic and include new high-output heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, as well as a new full-size forward-facing third-row seat option...

It used to be sold in the US in the 90s. But my question is, When are they gonna redesign the defender? Its not exactly cheap to justify it not being "modernized". Is there any news on when a new modern defender is coming out?

Futuristic Defender was commenced during BMW tenure-later somewhat "Explorerized"(=awfull) version was planned for m.y.2008 - but what's wrong w. the original-look at the Jeep Wrangler. We have assessed Brazilian resourced Def. w. Brazilian (obsolete but very good)115Hp 4cyl. 2.5L turbo diesel Maxion HSTcc (Rover licence) for Land Rover's USA (Ford) Irwine possible importation. The vehicle is excellent for its intended market; with few minor mods. it coud be imported under some special conditions. However Ford's top brass was under impression that "it's a vehicle for elephant hunters, and there is not many around". Importation was nixed and 2 senior marketing managers quit from Irwine in disgust (or were pushed over board). In addition certified negatron from L.R.U.K.certain John Stretton claimed "liability issues" as the reason for not attending to the U.S.market. He could not answer how many claims they had from the U.S. It seems to me that L.R. carefully created the image of expensive R.R. like vehicles for land gentry and square Defender may damage that image. If you can NOT muster quality for that much $$, puff up some elevated image for pseudo squires.

hi, i live in Dubai, UAE.
I intend to get a Defender, i have been always amazed by the capabilities and mostly the Character of this Defender.
i have been inquiring around for the cons/pros of this vehicle, since this is a terribly hor country [i intend to take it back home to Lebanon in a few years, so basically i will not have a problem there].
I came to know, from an englishman owner of the same vehicle about the fact that the Defender doesn't have enough cooling power to compensate for the heat and high temperatures here in Dubai [sometimes as high as 50 Celcius degrees at noon in the summer].
Do you think the new cooling improvements have solved this problem since there is now GULF Specs of this Line in production.

i was reading about th diff lock on 4x4abc.com...
quite some useful info there..
i came to wonder whether the defender has only a centre diff lock [between the axles] or both centre and axle diff lock [meaning 3 diff locks: 1 in each of the axles to lock the left and right wheels, and 1 in the centre to lock the back and front axles]??
