SPIED: NEW Spy Shots Of The All-New, Upcoming 2016 BMW 7-Series — NEW Details Seen
With Mercedes-Benz unveiling the all-new S-Class for 2014, the pressure is on for BMW — and other automakers — to compete appropriately. From what we've heard no one is even close to meeting the all-new benchmark.

From what we can see, it appears BMW will NOT be ready to launch an all-new large luxury sedan until 2015. That's quite a bit of time.

The good news is that still provides the Bavarians with plenty of time to develop something truly groundbreaking. Sources are currently reporting that BMW will be using more carbon fiber in its production vehicles — as seen in the Project i autos — and the 7-Series will be the first benefactor excluding the marques EVs.

The latest spy photos show the all-new car still under development with PLENTY of camouflage. Essentially, no part of the vehicle is exposed with exception of a few parts. We can't be too sure how much of this body will make production but note there are a couple of changes over the current model. Note the new exhaust design and the hood that seams line up with the front kidney grille.

It's no secret that BMW has been on the forefront of weight reduction in volume production vehicles. Starting with their tie-up SGL Group and development of the BMW i vehicles, they have been finding great use for carbon fibre in weight reduction. The key to this is carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). While this highly touted material is being used in the BMW i vehicles, it has yet to make its way into a series production BMW, until now...

And so it makes sense that the BMW 7-Series (usually the most cutting edge and forward looking BMW on the tech front) will be the first series vehicle to use this magical material in key areas to reduce weight, and thereby increase efficiency. As the use of this material will be a key selling point for the new model, it makes sense that the exact weight savings will remain guarded information until we are closer to the full reveal.

Slated as a 2016 model, the next 7-Series will fall under the G11 chassis code and will likely be shown off sometime in 2015...

Whatever happened to "trickle down"? BMW in the past decade or so has been "trickle up". Seems that the 3-Series is really the flagship car which the rest of the lineup follows (design-wise).

It does look lighter (Heard it should start around 3800 lbs), but the beltline is too low. The windows are huge for a luxury car.

To begin with the new Mercedes is NOT all that. It looks like what it is: a mildly evolved version of the previous S. The fact that BMW won't have a new 7 for another model year or two is hardly a deficit given how handsome the 7 Series is in comparison to the dowdy Audi, the strange XJ, and the ghetto bling Mercedes. Assuming BMW has learned never to Bangleize the 7 Series ever again, they should be OK. Sales of the S and 7 are a virtual dead heat.

LOL @MattDarringer. you may possibly be the only person in the automotive universe to say that the new S-Class is "NOT all that". Please. The S-Class has laid down the gauntlet in its segment like never before. Your anti-Mercedes attitude is old. Actually, I think you're anti-everything, not even sure what you like. Oh, you like the Koreans.

cidflekken, You are so correct and in fact the S-Class has always been the benchmark for full sized luxury cars for many many years and has as usual raised the bar again for how a full sized luxury car should be measured and for MattDarringer to say what he said shows he is totally clueless about cars not to mention the S Class outsells the 7 Series now and in the past IF you check your facts as obviously MattDarringer hasn't.

@MicrosoftUser: MattDarringer says that not from being clueless, but from actually knowing what the truth is. He takes every opportunity to take a swipe at Mercedes (and really, literally, every car company that's not named Hyundai or Kia) no matter what the situation. Kinda sad, really.

Audi and MB have really pulled out all the stops when it comes to their full size cars, I wanna see BMW step up their game as well.

Calling the S-Class ghetto is preposterous and extremely ignorant. Furthermore, it sounds like resentment.
Competition is good and BMW needs to step up its game. The 8 is only second to the S while the Lexus LS is already closing up on the 7.
