RUMOR: NEW Details About BMW's Next-Gen 5-Series Hit The 'Net — Is THIS What YOU Want To Hear?
The BMW 5-Series is one of the most popular mid-size luxury sedans gracing our roads today and although it seems like it just debuted yesterday, we're already seeing the vehicle's LCI — lifecycle impulse — for 2014.

You know what that means. An all-new version will be on the way shortly.

Recently some spy shots have shown what's thought to be the all-new 5-Series in the VERY early stages of development. Rough estimates put the car making yet another big splash for the 2016 model year, which would be in line with the all-new 7-Series. Sounds like a lot on BMW's plate.

But these spy shots aren't all that revealing. You have to click through via "Read Article" below to get a hold of the JUICY details.

Check it out below...

These initial road-going prototypes reveal that development on the new 5-series has advanced beyond the initial computer simulation phase. The new executive contender is slated for sale in the UK by the end of 2016...

...While the heavily clad mules pictured here provide few clues as to the look of the new 5-series, BMW bosses say it will adopt a sleeker appearance than today’s model, with clear influences from the Gran Lusso Coupé concept shown at Ville d’Este in April.

As durability testing begins on public roads, the car’s aero properties are also being trialled on full-scale models in a state-of-the-art wind tunnel at BMW’s Munich R&D centre...

A plug in hybrid as the BASE model would be a very clever move, BUT it has to have punch.

BMW would definitely put it out without punch. Have you seen the 320i?

BMW is in a heated competition with MB and Audi. They must rise to the challenge with a superior mid size vehicle.

BMW needs to refocus on its roots.
Or else they'll lose more market share.

Cut the electronification of the driver experience.
Cut the fat.

As enthusiastx11 said...fix the steering and secondly reduce the FAT. I am not happy with the direction BMW is heading towards. Get back to the roots.

I personally prefer MB over BMW given my driving style but I must say BMW have done a good job expanding their customer base by moving gradually away from their pure driving performance characteristics. I know BMW purists don't like their recent cars (3 and 5 in particular) but without "softening" those cars, I'm not sure whether BMW would have been able to sell as much cars as they did. Well, that's just one man's hunch anyway.

With BMW's current 5-series being hammered in reviews and comparison tests and with Audi's new design strategy on the horizon, BMW's next 5-series has never been more important to the brand.

Another screw up could mean a big customer defection to Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
