Sacrilege? Ford Considering Hybrid, EV, And Diesel Powerplants For New Mustang

Ford global powertrain boss Bob Fascetti revealed the company is considering more frugal versions of the new Mustang to meet increasingly stricter fuel consumption and emissions standards.

The 2015 Mustang will be available upon launch with a choice of three gasoline engines (3.7-liter V6, 2.3-liter 4-cylinder EcoBoost and a 5.0-liter V8) but during its lifespan it could receive less thirstier motors  as a move to meet more stringent fuel consumption and emission standards.

It will need a diesel to please the Europeans. There's nothing wrong with a hybrid. An EV would allow the greener than thou to own a Mustang. Make mine a gas V8.

Three words-Ferrari, Mclaren, Porsche. What do they have in common aside from the fact that they produce high performance supercars?

Sacriledge? They obviously don't think so.In 10 yrs.the complection of a high performance car will be radically different then it is today.

If they make it a pure electric with the performance of an SLS AMG ED for less than say $100k it would be amazing!

Of course that will not happen. Maybe an Energi PHEV version? Will need to beef up the performance of both the 141 hp 2.0l EcoBoost engine and the 118 hp electric motor unless they reconfigure them to be used together. Also the Mustang is still a RWD platform with a longitudinally mounted engine. The existing transverse FWD Energi setup will not fit easily.
