VIDEO: BMW UK Puts Together An Introduction To The All-New M3, M4 — Possibly The BEST BMW Since The 1M?
I'll never forget sitting behind the wheel of the then all-new 2011 BMW 1M. Everything about it was perfect. It was simple, turn-in was direct and perfectly weighted and, my God, it sounded amazing. It was like a Porsche 911 with its wailing six-cylinder motor.

But I think it's safe to say that BMW has out done itself with the all-new M3 and M4.

We already know the new M3/M4 sound amazing. It's not even an engine note, it's an orchestral experience. And both the sedan AND coupe look stunning. Both models are aggressive but not over the top, as was the problem — in my opinion — with the E60 M5. Those headlights still give me nightmares.

The real star of the show though is the all-new M4. It looks PERFECT from every angle. I knew after seeing the 4-Series M Sport it was going to look great but WOW this body style is remarkable as an M4.

The BEST news? It WILL be offered as a manual! It doesn't get much better than that. Not to mention weight is down and torque is up.

On paper, I think it's safe to say that the M3/M4 have the potential to be the BEST BMW since the 1M, which we called the best BMW "in years."

Would you agree that the Bavarians have got their mojo back?

Nice car,...but where does the M4 slot in?
BMW may say,.."Between the 3 and the 5"
But who needs that?
In fact, the current 3 has grown in size to resemble a 5-series already.
Now the 4 series? This overlapping may sell a few cars initially, but dilute differentiation within the BMW brand itself - which, in the long long, may come back to haunt it.

I don't think Audi or Benz is going to follow this niche segment with competitors since they have the C and E class already, ..or the Audi A 3 and A5 . Am I missing something here?

Performance aside, I find the BMW styling on the boring side. The evolution is just too slow from year to year, and model to model. They are all way too cookie-cutter for my taste. I can get behind the 6 series, (all variations), but beyond that, not too exciting. I an sure the BMW fans find these designs adequate.
