Will Volvo's XC Concept Coupe Be The Key To Taking Them Past Lexus And Closer To The Germans?
In September, the Volvo Concept Coupé was launched to critical acclaim and many awards, and represented the world’s first insight into Volvo Car Group's (Volvo Cars) new design direction under Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingenlath. It also showed one interpretation of how the proportions and versatility of Volvo Cars' new Scalable Product Architecture, which will underpin all medium and large cars in the company’s future, could look.

The Concept Coupé was the first of three design studies. The next chapter in Volvo Cars' new design story showcases how the company’s famous safety technology as well as a contemporary Scandinavian active lifestyle could be integrated into the new architecture. The Volvo Concept XC Coupé will make its world debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on Jan. 13, but full details including press release, videos and images will be published on Jan. 8.

The Concept XC Coupé builds on the Volvo’s proud history of Cross Country and XC products, with Volvo Cars having created the niche in 1997.

The better question is: "Will Volvo's XC Concept Coupe be the key to keeping them from being the next Saab? That is a MUCH more appropriate question given that Volvo does NOT have models that are brilliant sellers. Volvo's sales are down almost 50% of what they were just 5 years ago. Heck, Lincoln is considered on its death bed and Lincoln moves about 30K more units a year than Volvo. Lexus' sales are roughly 4 times higher than Volvo. Volvo also has heavy encroachment from the Koreans. Cars like the Optima SXL, Cadenza, Genesis, and Azera are gaining ground in the near-premium market which is where Volvo operates. They are now and ALWAYS have been one rung below the Germans. Lexus is a premium brand like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi thus there is no such thing as going "past Lexus and closer to the Germans." As for the concept, it looks like a C30 with the new Volvo face grafted on, so NO it will not be a good move for Volvo. The sooner Volvo gets a clue that it is not a premium brand the better for their future.

Couldn't agree more about what you say of Volvo, but not your opinion on Lexus being the same as Merc or BMW. But this is also just my opinion.
