IS-F Rolls Into The Sunset - But Did It Ever Leave A Mark On The Competition?
The Lexus IS-F, launched in 2007, was one of the cars you thought about buying if you didn’t want an E90/E92 BMW M3, a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, or a Jaguar XF-R.

It offered comparable but slightly lower performance, vertically-stacked exhaust pipes and a sometimes indecisive eight-speed gearbox (one of the first of its kind) that had to make do with torque coming in high, at 5,200 rpm – some reviews said it was an annoyance while low-speed cruising.

obviously it did, or else 009 wouldn't keep posting the same repetitive articles to gain clicks/traffic. Keep in mind Lexus wasn't trying to be sporty until recent years. This is BMW's area. They will need time to catch up. But judging from recent reviews, I think they are doing a good job.

First generation of a car like this was a good effort. Next Gen. the RCF will be a much improved car.

The ISF was a wonderful car to drive. Much more engaging than a Mercedes and delightfully less polished than a BMW. The ISF felt like what Carroll Shelby would have done to the Lexus IS if they had hired him to consult. Everything about it was wrong in the most delightful of ways for the Lexus image.

The ISF is a great car but needs to be priced lower than the C63 and M3. I almost get one of them when it first came out but I ended up getting the LS460 because of my personal/work needs. I bet the next version (RCF) is going to be a monster but since it is competing directly with the aforementioned cars it needs a price cut in order to be the value player out of all of them therefore becoming the easier choice.

The IS-F is a typical understatement car, the design predicts only 300 HP but it has 416. The powertarin is direct (eurospec), I like the car. There heavy weight is only disadvantage recently. I think the RC-F will be light weight comparing to IS-F, and RC-F will be more agil as well.

It was designed backwards to be a normal car first, then stuffed with a bigger engine with a strange elongated nose. Maybe their 2nd try will be better.

However, except for the i8, I can't think of any BMW that will turn heads like an LFA does. Even the M series cars are only noticeable to people to care about cars.

And this is why I loved it: "It was designed backwards to be a normal car first, then stuffed with a bigger engine with a strange elongated nose." It reminds me of the 68 Mustang GT500KR where the Cobra Jet is forced under the hood into an engine bay it was not designed for. The way to beat the Germans is not to try to be like them but be UNLIKE them. For this reason the Cadillac CTSV is superior in my mind to the Germans because on the way to supersedan superstardom it didn't forget how engaging an American muscle car is.

Nope, no discernable mark on its competition. In the DC area, there are many more of its competitors on the roads. Seeing an IS-F anywhere around here is less common than seeing an HS250. Hopefully, a new IS-F based on the new IS sedan will take off for Lexus as it has now hit and exceeded the benchmark in its class.
