Extra-Long Wheelbase S-Class Spied on Video
Ahead of its 2014 launch, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class XL was spied on the streets of Stuttgart and we have the video. According to the latest reports, the extra-long wheelbase S-Class will be 200mm longer than the current long wheelbase S-Class (5,2446mm) putting it at 5,446mm long. The seating layout will remain the same as the standard with the addition of a third window behind the back door.
Power for the enlarged S-Class will come from a V12 5.5 liter engine that is capable of outputting 585 HP (430 kW) and could potentially adopt the S600 Maybach moniker. No definite word on where the debut will happen but there is a good chance it will be debuted at the Guangshou Motor Show in China where they love long wheelbases.

Perpetuating the styling sins of the Maybach. The stretch in the middle S Class didn't work for Maybach and will not work here. Bentley and Rolls Royce will continue laughing all the way to the bank.

Never underestimate the power of the S Class my friend. Unlike the Maybach, the S class already has a cult following, is a consistent best seller, and seen by many as the pinnacle of the automotive industry.

The wealthy will scoop an elongated S Class up just to say my S Class is better than yours the same way a buyer would opt for a phantom opposed to a Ghost even though both share underpinnings with a 7 series Bimmer

A *unique* S Class is not something the boys at Rolls or Bentley want to hear about

The Maybach's marketing was poorly managed. And the thing's exterior just didn't look stately. A difficult juxtaposition it is to have a timeless looking design in a competitive, modern, aerodynamic package. The Rolls looks impressive but its certainly not as balanced as an S Class or an A8. But then again, maybe neither need it be.

First of all Maybach had no gravitas or history aside from once upon a time being made in Germany during the "glory days" of the Third Reich. Resurrecting Maybach made as much sense as trying to make the Hitler mustache cool again.

The Maybach cars looked like weenie dogs. Maybachs were for rappers and ballers who suddenly had gobs of money but no taste besides in their mouths and the new S Class fills that void now for those who want wretched bling and gaudy, ostentatious styling.

Mercedes should make an S Class XL, but a distinct model like the L Class or something with stand alone styling. A coupesedan based on the S would actually make more sense than an S Class XL.
