SPIED: NEW Shots Of The All-New BMW M4 Captures It ON THE STREET
If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. I think that's how the saying goes....Anyway...

Here at AutoSpies we make it very clear: Automobile design can vary SIGNIFICANTLY depending on the environment. Cars that look GREAT on the auto show floor may look horrendous when you get it out and about on the roads.

This is due to a couple of things:

1) Proportions; and

2) Lighting.

It's critical to see how a vehicle looks in the company of others. It gives you an idea of how it really looks when compared against the likes of ordinary products.

And in the case of the BMW M4, every time I see one I fall in love again. It looks super aggressive and in these new shots of it captured on the street, the car looks extraordinary. I have yet to find one element of the design I do not like or would change.

Front and rear facias -- much too busy! My eyes don't know where to look.

Agreed, very busy. and not really tastefully so.

The venting for the "Air Curtain" adds another line that creates a little busy look; however, it is functional and not there for "style points."

Yes, the air curtain definitely creates that additional "flap" that's just unbecoming. I'd have to think, though, that the same functionality could be accomplished with better design. Unfortunately, it does, in fact, come off as an attempt at style vs. function.

Unfortunately BMW is relying more heavily on the design of the front/rear facias because they are not willing to risk significant design changes to headlights/tailights or area around the kidney grill

i wish there was an option to take out the busy lines on the front and rear bumpers. The car would look a lot better.

M3s used to conjure emotions when you see it... now it feels like just another bmw

Agree front and rear facias too busy looking for my taste. Should look better in darker colors. BMW loves to show the initial images in yellow and orange colors and get everyone worked up when most people buy black, gray and white.

Time to throw away the mold and head in a different styling direction. Will it drive well...yes. Will it want me to want it...no. Too busy, too much of the same, too heavy and too pricey. I think the M2 is the one to have when it arrives...lighter on its feet and the pocketbook. Just one man's opinion.

I wouldn't be on an M2.

During the 1M, BMW execs said the company will **maybe** do a car like that once every 10 or so years.

M235i will be as close as you get without stepping on the M4's toes, IMHO.

"too heavy and too pricey"

The new M4 weighs less the the E46 M3 and only 60 lbs more than a M235i, with far more horsepower and torque. The price has not been annouced yet.

What a shame BMW overstyled the front and rear fascias. Way too busy and not as cohesive as the rest of the car. Looks like one of those cheap, tasteless Honda Civic fanboy add-ons. Maybe an aftermarket provider will fashion a better front end.
