Mercedes-Benz Beats BMW in 2013 Luxury Car Sales
Mercedes-Benz took back the crown from rival luxury brand BMW, after it had held the title of top-selling car brand for two years straight. Even with an end of the year sales surge from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, with its vast vehicle lineup, was able to beat BMW’s sales and set an annual record for sales in the process.

Mercedes posted a 17 percent increase in December with 33,007 deliveries. Mercedes-Benz sales leaders included the all-new Mercedes CLA, Mercedes new entry-level vehicle, the E-Class and uber luxury S-Class. Mercedes-Benz sales increased by 14 percent to 312,534 units sold, 3,254 vehicles more than BMW.

Congratulations Mercedes-Benz!

Take note Bimmer and Audi, while making BOLD moves in design language is a risk, it not only has people talking whether they love it/hate it...It also had us buying.

These days Technology/relative performance/safety features can all be quickly imitated.

Design, innovation, and passion is what will set companies apart.

Your comment makes no sense. BMW has always pushed the design envelope while Audi has always been extremely conservative. Since MB bested both in sales, there must be some other factor at play. Most likely among the choices would be increased numbers of lower end models that boost total sales numbers.

@LJ745, making hideous looking cars during the bangle area does not count as pushing the envelope, shredding the envelope...maybe, put pushing is a reach.

I think what LJ745 meant is that sales of the new entry-level CLA45 alone were enough to push to MB to number 1 in 2013 sales. The CLA45 alone had 2013 sales of @14,000. Without it, BMW would have easily been number 1 on this comparison. Just simple math.

And the CLA45 does evoke passion which along with its lower price made a huge difference. This is why I'm not at all sold on the idea that the A3 will be that big of a deal for its competition. It lacks passion. Maybe it will be a big deal for Audi, but not for MB and whatever entry-level sedan BMW comes up with to compete.
