2015 Audi TT Interior Revealed: Features All-Digital Dashboard Without Separate Infotainment Screen and Revised MMI

2015 Audi TT Interior Revealed: Features All-Digital Dashboard Without Separate Infotainment Screen and Revised MMI
The interior of the new Audi TT has been shown for the first time at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Audi says it has adopted new technology and designed the interior of the next-generation TT from scratch, presenting a driver-focused cabin, which no longer features a separate infotainment display in the centre of the dashboard. Instead, all infotainment displays are now found on the all-digital instrument cluster, a move which Audi says has allowed it to save weight and space in the cabin.

The digital instrument display is based on a 12.3-inch screen, with drivers able to select between a classic instrument cluster and a combined instrument and infotainment display which minimises gauges.

Infotainment functions come courtesy of a new version of Audi's MMI system, which has been redeveloped to allow drivers to use it like a smartphone, with text search functionality as well as zoom and scroll functions accessed via the MMI touch interface.

The interior features the now familiar round air nozzles, with temperature and air-conditioning controls situated at their centre rather than on a separate panel. Controls for hazard warning lights and other functions are found in the centre of the dashboard.

Dislike.

Agreed and though I like the trendy circular vents, these appear to dominate rather than integrate with the interior

I love it. Audi has found a great modern, minimalist and clean interior design theme. This design follows in the A3 sedan interior's clean, minimalist and modern footsteps.

I agree -- they are taking the idea of the current trend of display screens between the gauges and expanding on that...while getting rid of the pop-up display screen that dominates most dashboards these days (and usually looks tacked on or like an after-thought)....I think this is brilliant

GermanNut - You know I love my A6er and love the Audi products. I use to drive BMWs, so I can appreciate both of these manufacturers, BUT I think this is goofy, to me kiddy looking. I'm NOT interested in having some "Play Station" instrument pod as my dashboard.I thought we graduated from this type of dash. Just give me a CLEAN, analog dash with the beautiful gauges to look at. If Audi wants to give driving detail information, then do it on the NAV screen, not in the instrument pod in front of me. Keep the speedo clean, tach clean, fuel, oil and water read outs nice, BUT I definitely don't need some kids looking Nintendo/Play Station look in front of me. I definitely hope they don't carry this cluttered looking instrument pod area throughout the lineup. Now - I do love the round vents and love the dash area where the radio/heater will be. That looks cool!!.

Keep the "GIMMICK" gaming dash out. BTW: I don't think Porsche, Maserati, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Rolls or even Mercedes would put some goofy looking instrument panel in their wonderful cars. This would backfire because enthusiast don't want this. They want a clean analog readout.

Additionally - you don't always have to agree with Audi since I know you like them more than BMW. It's OK to tell Audi they "might have gotten it wrong" on this one. Do it now before it's too late.

Just FYI, Mercedes has been using an all-digital dash on the S-class for years. Jaguar as well on the XJ, and Range Rover too. BMW just started last year on the 6-Series and 7-Series. They're spreading.

I know other manufacturers have used all-digital dashes for sometime now, but Audi is the first to use a digital dash AND do away with a separate infotainment screen. Never before has the all-digital dash been the ONLY way to see all information, until now.

I think it's a great move, gkearn56. Buyers have increasingly said they value technology immensely. What better way to give them technology than through a high-tech and clean interior.

You might want to start getting more tech-savvy because Audi is targeting a younger demographic (the generation X buyers) who grew up with all this new social media, lightning fast internet etc.

It's those buyers that hold the key to the future. Give them what they want now and they're more likely to stick with your brand for the next 40 years.

Dear Audi, I currently drive a 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus and a 2013 Audi TT-S. This is my 3rd R8 and fourth TT. I HATE this new "playstation-look" dash. If I wanted a videogame interface in a sportscar I would have bought a GTR. But GermanNut is correct, the younger demographic that all manufacturers are courting will relate to this much better than this old dinosaur.

Not sure about the dash but love the temp control on the fan.

Imagine putting a steering wheel in front of your laptop...distracted much?

@GermanNut: This has nothing to do with being technically savvy. It has to do with being a purist, true auto enthusiast. PlayStation look NO. Having features that won't distract during driving (texting, looking down while driving, distractions, etc)

(BTW German - I am tech savvy. You never cease to amaze me or others with some of the comments you post. I'm an educator (professor) at a small college and teach CISCO, Microsoft, CompTIA computer certified related courses. So the previous comment made is coming from a point that understands that too much computer technology doesn't always make a car better).

Yes, gkearns56, it has plenty to do with being tech-savvy and knowledgeable about how to use social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.

Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are all targeting younger buyers. These younger buyers have repeatedly stated that they value technology very highly and it is extremely important for them to be able to integrate their favorite social media sites that the grew up using with the latest in infotainment technology.

Audi is doing precisely that and providing the solution in a new, high-tech and futuristic way.

Audi doesn't want purists. Audi wants young buyers who grew up using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pandora etc. and Audi will make sure to give these buyers what they want in a car.

Configurable main display is great, but moving infotainment and GPS to instrument cluster is idiotic from a usability and safety standpoint. Audi forgot the passenger use these systems and brings more distraction front and center to the driver. With Audi electronics glitches you can look forward to losing all display info at once, brilliant.
