DETROIT AUTO SHOW: 2015 BMW M3 Sedan And M4 Coupe Thunder Into Motor City
Making world debuts together in Detroit, the all-new 2015 BMW M3 Sedan and first-ever 2015 BMW M4 Coupe are examples of the legendary BMW M engineering discipline which emphasizes a synthesis of motorsport technology with unrestricted daily driving versatility. World-class engine and powertrain technologies, along with intelligent lightweight vehicle construction through extensive use of exotic construction materials, add to the intensity of the M feeling and driving experience.
The extensive weight-reduction efforts of the BMW M engineers should not be underlooked; the new 2015 BMW M3 and 2015 BMW M4 are the first BMW M cars to see a reduction in curb weight from one generation to the next. Both models are equipped with an all-new 3.0-liter inline-6 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and increased performance levels that distinguish them from previous generations of the M3 family, delivering 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. Both the M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds when equipped with the optional M-DCT transmission. By setting new segment standards in terms of dynamics, agility, precise handling and emotional design, the new BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe have set the benchmark for the high-performance segment created by the M3 many years ago.

Nice yes... stunning no. Interior is functional but still no better than the garden variety 3 series other than the fatter steering wheel.

Hold on here! There is clearly a design anomaly here. Why is the rear of the car so straight and upright. Simply not enough curve. Some may say I'm committing sacrilege but the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge has a more attrective rear end. BMW put all the effort in designing the front of the car and forgot that the car must be aesthetically balanced. I feel the BMW F10 M5 is a much more aesthetically pleasing and balanced car. All aspects of the M5 are cohesive and is one of BMW's greatest designs.
The rear of the M4 looks more elegant than the M3 because of the smoother taillights. I don't know why they did not implement them on the M3. The blue colour is horrible and is nowhere near as stunning as monte carlo blue as seen in the M5. The hue of blue did the M3 no favours whatsoever.
In conclusion BMW's design team have to be aware that the double-kidney grill and frowning headlights are not enough to make a vehicle cohesive.
