DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Although Everyone Is Waiting For The RC F, They Probably Should Check Out What's Already Uncovered, The RC
We may only be halfway through the day, but the vibe here is utter madness. There are so many all-new products making debuts, it's tough to keep up. But at the Detroit Auto Show, the Agents have your back.

One car everyone's waiting for is the all-new Lexus RC F. Slated to debut tomorrow, we're excited to see how it looks. BUT, there's one thing we think everyone is missing. The standard RC 350 is already uncovered and ready to be viewed.

AND, you have to keep in mind, this is the vehicle that will sell WAY more units than the F variant. Think of it like this, the IS can be found in every major city, but how often do you see an IS F?

Also keep in mind that with cars like the BMW 4-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class coupe, there is a lot of demand and market share to be taken away if the RC delivers the goods.

That said, Agent 001 made sure to fire off some quick snaps of the latest Lexus so YOU can weigh in.

Check out the RC 350 below.

The All-New Lexus RC Set to Launch 'In the Red'

  • Upcoming RC Coupe Available in Striking New Red Paint Color
  • The Head-Turning Hue is Achieved Using a Combination of a Silver and Red Base
  • RC Coupe Set to Launch in 2014

TORRANCE, Calif. – Not even Rudolph’s nose can compare to the striking red paint on the all-new RC Coupe. A more dynamic red exterior paint color is made brighter and with more contrast thanks to an entirely new painting process, using a two-color base of both silver and red.  The shiny and bright RC coupe is set to launch in 2014.

The luminous red paint is achieved through a meticulous paint process using four base coats of paint which are then baked twice. Layers of colored and clear coating are used to control some of the color’s reflections and establish a balance between the brightness and depth – two elements that traditionally work against each other.

  • For the red exterior, the factory starts with a base coat of silver and then applies a clear coat.
  • Then, the clear coat is covered by a translucent red coat, which is then topped with another clear coat.
  • The four coats of paint are baked twice to set the color.

As a result, light hitting the paint reflects off the red layer and also off the silver layer below, which adds depth and a metallic highlight to the red coloration.  Prior to this new, two-color base process, the factory used base coats with the same color tone (red and red).

The all-new RC Coupe was unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show and will be on display at the Lexus space at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

That is horrible. The front end looks like my barbers trimmer.

My biggest pet peeve is the car's rear valence with the black strakes in it.

Otherwise, I think it looks quite good

Those jagged taillights and those fish gills are atrocious. And that bottom half of the front grille is just awful. It's really almost embarrassing for a luxury brand to try so desperately to get rid of its conservative reputation.

Has Lexus not yet been sued for using Nike swooshes in their lights? And the rear taillights sticking out beyond the sides of the body make the lights look like old lady glasses. All that is missing is a giant chain hanging down between them.

The whole car is just too busy -- too many creases and lines, like origami, but with bulbous sections that don't match stylistically with the lines and creases. And if that's the production version then that might mean they're actually going to build that NX micro SUV "thing", which is probably the ugliest car any mainstream brand showed last year.

If this was BMW or Benz, you can bet that all comments above would be about how beautiful it looks.

Another vehicle that needs to be seen in the flesh. Proportions are tight on this one.

Front grille is a bit weird with the vertical elements.
