DETROIT AUTO SHOW: Toyota FT1 Overload — The MOST and BEST EXTERIOR Shots Of The FT1 We Bet You'll Find ANYWHERE
Last night Agent 001 and I were in a hotel bar shooting the breeze when the topic came about: are auto shows losing that element of surprise? I think it's pretty clear that over the years we've seen shows that are lacking that shock value.
Think: how often does a car come about without being teased or promoted before the reveal? These days, it's few and far between.
While 001 and I were philosophizing, we were trying to figure out WHO would bring the surprise of the show. Toyota wasn't even on our radar.
Little did we know that the FT1 was ready to be brought out today and be one of the top cars during day one.
Well, now you can see it the way it was meant to be seen — in full AutoSpies glory.

Hands down the best design at the show. It would be interesting to read about some of the design features. I'm curious why they are using such large air inlets just aft of the doors on a front engined car? I assume some for brake cooling, but also possible down force or even forced injection?

Best design, and most likely this car is going to compete with the cars like Lamborghini Aventador.
Toyota/Lexus = #1 Automaker in the world

@JDM
I think this is more along the lines of a next-gen Supra than an LFA.

Evo X can keep up with a Lambo.
And this car will be only better than both Mitsu and Lambo.

You want me to die because I say dumb stuff about cars? Wow!!! Sensitive? Aren't we? I'd hate to see how you deal with REAL problems. I Guess I'm different. If I see someone posting something stupid, I'm not going to wish death on them. You must be one of those Ugly Americans that the rest of the world hates. You cant handle opinions different than yours. The way you handle it is to wish death on the person with the different opinion. Glad I'm not you. Enjoy.

Darringer, you are a fool. Indeed you are very ignorant. Alas, you are very stupid. No, actually you are jealous. Since you wrote ricer, you are probably a Government Motors imbecile. But in the event you are a FixOrRepairDaily ignoramous, I can expect nothing more out of you than what you had written. Wow.

I happen to have taste with respect to cars. This Toyota is for people with taste only in their mouths. I own two TVRs (Sagaris Speed Six and a Tasmin with a Ecoboost V6), a Maserati Qporte, a Boss 302 Laguna Seca, and a Kia Optima. Oh yes, I run a business that restores and resells British sportscars and I work with people who have taste in cars. This mess is designed so teenage boys can pull up a picture on their iPads and shuffle knuckles to it.

I wouldn't worry too much about the haters here. Ever Internet site has them. Some people here never say a positive thing about anything out of Asia. I have seen some posters here who never say anything positive about ANY automobile. I am guessing they are still driving an '88 Cavalier.
In any case, this FT1 design is beyond amazing. I love how it was kept under wraps. It must really be exciting for the Autospies Agents who are at the show. Congrats guys...I am so jealous!

I do like the car, I feel Toyota/Lexus tends to take too many elements from other cars and throw them into their designs. When I look at the FT1 I see a mashed up Lexus LFA, Mercedes SLS, RX7 AND RX8… I mean its cool, but they even took AMG's "fan" wheel design from the SLR… Not original enough for me. Doesn't even follow the company's front grill look?

The next gen of Korean cars are going to look amazing with all the awesome designs from the Japs that they can copy from.
