RUMOR: Does THIS Sound Too Good To Be True? BMW M3 Pricing To Start In The LOW $60K Area

RUMOR: Does THIS Sound Too Good To Be True? BMW M3 Pricing To Start In The LOW $60K Area
According to our friends over at Bimmerfest, they've got the right pricing scoop on the all-new BMW M3 and M4 that stormed the 2014 Detroit Auto Show floor this year. Remember, this car represents a big shift in BMW's performance brand as has a throwback focus to shaving weight, going back to a six-cylinder powerplant and will exclusively use a drivetrain sending power to the rear.

As of now, the base 435i coupe starts at $46,000 according to BMWUSA.

With a bunch more power and plenty of technology working on its side, it seems pretty realistic that BMWNA would set the price the M cars at about a $15,000-$20,000 premium. Remember, the base cars will not come with carbon ceramic brakes and a whole set of kit.

I think it's safe to say many of these M3 and M4 models will be had for nearly $80,000.

That said, I wanted to pose the question to you: does a $62,000 base price for the M3 and a $64,200 base price for the M4 seem realistic or is merely another rumor bubbling to the surface?

What say you, Spies?

Confirmed US MSRP base prices for the 2015 BMW M3 and 2014 BMW M4 -
  • 2015 F80 M3: $62,000
  • 2015 F82 M4: $64,200
  • Destination and handling $925 (currently - subject to change)
Manual transmission is standard with DCT being an add-on option. This represents a serious jump in pricing over the out going E90 and E92 M3 factoring in inflation, high tech construction with carbon fiber and additional base equipment it is not out of line and cheaper then some expected. Package and option will be similar to F30/F32 pricing, for more ordering information take a peak at the M3/M4 dealer demo ordering sheets.

BMW M3 / M4 Timeline
  • January 18th-26th - Public debut at Detroit Auto Show
  • End of January, early February - Full dealer pricing and order guides released
  • February - Dealers allocations assigned and customer order bank opens
  • March - Stat of Production for dealer demo and launch cars
  • Late April - Start of production for customer cars.
  • Mid June - Press drive and media launch
  • Late June - Customer deliveries start and European Delivery begin

I am not surprised. The car looks pretty cheap, too, anyway, I bet it uses some Made in China parts and such. By the way, does BMW still use GM transmission?

M3 and M4 really look like some sort of a joke or something, they look like a Volvo now. I actually liked the Bangle-era M3 better.

Without a doubt, Lexus RC-F is the winner in this segment.

(Deboost me if you hate Lexus & America but worship Europe and BMW :D)

anyways in other related news. The Lexus is an not even in the same sentence as the M3/M4.

In regards to pricing, it is definitely less expensive than what I was expecting. Especially considers the competition is ALOT higher. A Audi RS5 starts at $69,600 ; Mercedes C63 coupe is $62,750 & E550 coupe is $59,000 ....

The M3/M4 is larger, faster, better handling and balance that the entire competition and for less money. Definitely surprised

Unfortunately, Lexus RC-F is already a stunning vehicle, and even though the performance numbers are not out yet (And pricing), I can already tell this car is going to be the best of all.

Look at that BMW M4. Looks like a Volvo, and I bet it drives like a Volvo, too :D

The Lexus? LOL. too funny. How well did the IS-F fair in comparison tests? so well that they stopped comparing them all together after they lost Every Comparison Test. And now you bring up the RC-F? that is too funny.

Which comparison tests are you talking about? IS-F has got a lot of positive reviews from many reviews, and one of German tests compared it to C63 AMG, and stated IS-F is more interesting to drive.

I mean, it's obvious that you are delusional, as your name shows it, but really, you have to face reality, friend.

"Which comparison tests are you talking about"
Motor Trend
Car & Driver
Top Gear,

For a few.

As far as performance goes, the Lexus comes in 450 bhp 25 more than the M3 425, but loses the touque battle the RC-F at 384. If Automobile Magazine is right the the RC-F is trounced at the scale weighing almost 700 lbs more than the M. Extra weight does not bode well for the dance on the ashphalt.

$60K is NOT value pricing.

The price would seem appropriate based on previous generation. BUT, you won't get too much for that outside of the engine, wheels, and steering wheel.

As a current owner of a 2012 335i coupe. I would rather wait for a 2015 4 series coupe to see if they put the 6cyl turbo from the 6 series in the car, and just get an ECU tune kit & plus the m sport, and have a blast.

That does not make an "M". A 435i coupe with the M sport package and then ECU upgrade, with upgrade brakes , upgrade suspension , drivetrain, steering will easily cost you more than the M4.

Agreed. Add options and the price will rise another $10K easy. BMW does this to get you in the show room which the vultures sales people put one hand on one shoulder and the other in your pocket.

Everyone does this. Take an Audi S5 that starts at $52,000 and yet by the time you get one decently equipped you are over $62k, or a RS5 starts at $69,600 and most are sold for over $80k.

It is still a very good value as it is less than all of the Competition and yet is better.

It's all the carbon fiber, weight saving isn't cheap.

Yes - And I'm sure by the time you add any options to the M3, it will easily hit $70,000-$75,000. There hasn't been a BMW that already comes loaded. Just check on the BMW main website and you will see the MANY options that can STILL be added. This is definitely a $75K car nicely equipped.

BMWm4BMWm4 - 1/18/2014 1:18:56 PM

Even at that it still puts it less than a Comparable AUDI RS5. For a larger, faster, more technology advanced, lighter, sport performance car around the $70k to $75k range is a tremendous value. Then add the 4 years or 50,000 miles of Full Maintenance and you have a car that is at least $3k to $8k less than the competition ..

Decently equipped CTS V is $74k, the Audi RS5 is $80k, the C63 AMG ( albeit smaller ) $74,920 .... M3/M4 well equipped low $70k ....

Get prepared to see the car getting well over 90k after all the options. Mercedes does it, Audi does it, BMW does it.

In fact, BMW has no reason to price the car cheap, as the demand is high.

Or if it is indeed cheap like around 60k, then I guess BMW is desperate to make some cash, and trying to compete with Hyundai (tsk tsk)

Would you believe that the M4 will be priced around $170K in Australia, why because they can and people pay it, go figure.

forget about the trash you read, I had the 335xi, got an IS-F and regretted getting the IS-f over the 335xi !! enough said !
i have an m3 now and it is worlds better than the is-f.. the is-f is a great car, but not even close to the enjoyment you get driving the m3.

this 80k m4 will lease for 900 a month a year after it comes out, while a 75k rs5 leases for 1200+ ... audi lease deals are GARBAGE !!

Given that a live axle Boss 302 Laguna Seca could show its tail lights to the previous M3. I shudder to think what the Mustang will do for $40 that the BMW CAN'T DO for $80K.

the m3 vs the mustang is an interesting comparison - the m3 tested was always a 6 speed, they should use the faster dual clutch because the mustang has an advantage with power/ torque.
mustangs are great, but the extra price of the m3 i really feel is the quality/ feel of the interior. the mustang camaro, c6 corvette feel a lot worse as daily drivers because of their interiors. if you want to save money, you definitely get a better bang for your buck with the american cars.

Another overpriced personal image car, waste of money for a commuter car.
I imagine this is a lease only vehicle and not a long commitment purchase.
Naked carbon roof should make a great solar heat collector.

These are the right prices. This is where M3/M4 SHOULD start!
