DETROIT AUTO SHOW: MORE Pictures Of The Volkswagen Golf R From Motown
In yet another genius Volkswagen move, one of the world's largest automakers brought a two-door car to the market it will not sell it in.
[Crickets]
Is this some sort of joke? I mean, really, they couldn't give the largest US-based show the right car it's bringing to the market? I am left shaking my head. This is a double whammy after seeing the Dune, which is neither interesting or cool.
Now the Golf R has some street cred at least. It is the most powerful Golf ever produced, which should get buyers that want to race Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions and Subaru WRX STIs a thrill. In addition, it will roll out with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor equipped with a turbo — you know what that means: some serious turbo kits will come out to boost power in the aftermarket.
Although my colleague Agent 009 was sure to post pictures earlier this week, being a VW fan and owner I just felt the urge to share some more shots with you.

I don't think you read what I wrote.
It was clearly sarcasm.
I have been very critical of VWoA, especially with its presence at the NAIAS because it brought the lame Dune and the wrong variant of the Golf R.

And VAG can'tunderstand why it's sales in the US are not florishing.I think they need a labotomy or somthing.This car is well done in it's details. In fact probably the bestq quality interior of any compact car.
This just ain't got no style. It's abox with very sharp features. But at the end of the day it's still a box.For the money they are going to charge for this thing they need to bring somthing else to the table.It's called "style". Specifically "Scirocco Style". When will VAG learn. Plain and austere is simply not going to work. I know it works in Europe but we are not European. Yes there is a VW faithful that buy VW's. But they are a minority group. VAG cannot make a good business case unless you have some style with your teutonic goodness. VAG understands this with Audi. They need to inject a little Seat styling for the US. Better yet bring in Seat and call it a VW.

I don't necessarily agree with you that the company needs to rethink it's design strategy simply because there are folks that want a teutonic product.
Just look at Jetta sales.
Now, I do agree with your sentiment that they need to inject some style in another way like it did with the Passat CC. That was a risk it took and that car sold pretty well.

It's a tasteful design. Flashy styling ages fast. A closer look usually reveals some thoughtful details. It's a Golf. I will agree that it is pricey.

You've missed the point completely on this car.
Like the R32, no owner of this Golf R is going to race an Evo or Wrx because they would get their assed kicked if they were running stock. The GTI, or R, is not about all-out performance, but a confident, well-handled and balanced, overpriced car. It is not meant to be everything to everybody.
Secondly, this car will make it to the U.S. in some form. It may not be this year or next, but this will arrive here without a "ringed" badge adorning its hood and trunk.
