Motor Trend Comparison Test: Porsche Panamera Turbo vs. Audi RS7 vs. Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG S!

Motor Trend Comparison Test: Porsche Panamera Turbo vs. Audi RS7 vs. Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG S!
Power. Can you ever have enough? That's a question our predecessors spent a great deal of time discussing during the bad old days of the 1980s. These days, we Motor Trend scribes are often asking the opposite. Can a car have too much power? More than 99 percent of the time, the answer is hell, no -- the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta might be the world's single, overpowered example -- but as the months and years roll on by, the embarrassment of riches that constitutes a comparison test like this one is, well, totally embarrassing. Allow me to illustrate my point: We have three four-door sedans that make 1657 horsepower combined. For the sake of hyperbole, that's more power than a 1200-hp Bugatti Veyron Super Sport combined with the 455-hp Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. And we asked Porsche for the even more potent Panamera Turbo S, but that 570-hp monster wasn't revealed (in Tokyo, then Los Angeles) until one week after we concluded this especially power-dense test. (MT writer Mike Febbo wanted to name it "Menage a Torque.")

The CLS kills the other 2 from a design stand point, the rear of the RS7 is aging fast and the Panamera...no comment.

Audi definitely builds some of the best auto transmissions for constant, spirited driving. Mercedes definitely needs to work on theirs. That being said, and based on my experience, Audi's jumpy throttle responses in their transmissions is something I have found difficult to live with day to day.

This test was racist...why is there no Lexus, Acura or Infiniti invited?...lol!

It's funny how a Mercedes dealership hires people like you. You should pray to Germany every night, as that is the country that allowed an average Joe American like you to represent their brand.

Wow, the Panamera kicks so much butt in handling and clearly won this competition, but it's butt is the reason people won't buy it.

Well, hate to tell you,but Panameras are a dime a dozen where I live. See the everywhere, in every iteration. In fact, one of my friends had a 2012 Turbo S, which he just got rid of in favor of the S63. So, people are buying them, regardless of the questionable styling. And, FACT, they have a road presence (as does the CLS) like no other sedan this side of a RR Phantom. The A7/S7 go completely unnoticed, as does the 6 GC. Not saying this to be critical or argumentative, just giving you facts in my experience and observations.

Hmm, there should've been a GS F Sport in this comparison test, or I guess we should wait for this new Lexus 4 door coupe.

But then again, we know GS F sport is way too good to be in this comparison test to be honest.

Riiiiight. Let's bring a knife to a gun fight. Or, in this case, a missile fight.

I would take the BMW M6 Grand Coupe (with a manual tranny) over any of them.

Regardless of the numbers, the CLS is for shrimps or morons. Have you ever sat in one? A WW1 submarine has more headroom.

Your nothing but a troll. Nobody even takes you serious. How in all seriousness could you even think a GS350 Fsport could compete in this segment is retarded. A Lexus 4 door coupe?...that's original! What next, turbochargers?...lol!

It's really funny how a Mercedes dealership actually hires people who don't even know the difference between "your" and "you're". And you mean "seriously", instead of "serious". Even grammatically impaired. I guess the Mercedes dealership that you work for has no class.

There was a news today, stating that there might be a Lexus 4 door coupe coming in 2016. The news is on this website as well, meaning you not being informed on this matter is not my problem.

And tinymuscle? I'm sorry, kiddie, the name "muscle" is about the U.S. "muscle cars", not "my" muscle. Read my name again, if you have the eyes that are usable.

But oh wait, I guess you would call the American muscle cars "tiny muscle" cars, as you worship Germany! lol! Without Germany, how could you even pay for your rent, right?

Oh no...you pointed out my grammatical flaws...now everyone is gonna make fun of me! Your such a tool. You obviously do not comprehend sarcasm. I suspect that's because there is no spell check for that. "If you have eyes that are usable"?..who even says $#it like that? You praise brands that offer no innovation or influence in automotive progression yet anyone that appreciates the motorsport domination, history, lineage, pedigree, innovation, and engineering prowess of Mercedes, Porsche, BMW, and Audi you ridicule as an obtuse fanboy? You..tinymuscleman...the undisputed downvote king of Autospies...are without a doubt the weakest link! Blam!

It would be pretty funny only if people at Mercedes-Benz read your comments here, as they fully show your stupidity flatout. I mean, you obviously are not even worthy to represent one of the biggest German brands, but I would say you would make a great salesman at like, Chrysler dealership. Don't take it personally, this is merely a suggestion.

Who says stuff like that? I do. And I have the right to. This is not a high school (I can already tell you are most likely a teenager, or probably a 40 year old teenager. Most likely either of them).

Mazda has the history of motorsport domination and engineering prowess. Let's see, who made the rotary engine possible? Why did the Germans believe rotary could never work?

Toyota/Lexus has the reputation of making reliable vehicles. Many people seem to ignore "reliability" because many people don't know what it feels like to be stranded.

And can you please tell me the things that make the new S class so much better than the Lexus LS? I would love to hear your points.

Apparently I am worthy seeing as I work at Mercedes and do quite well. Why don't you tell us what you do for a living besides trolling enthusiast websites? As usual you are wrong on your your assumptions about my age, nationality and pretty much everything else you take a swing at. Rotary engine?...you mean the engine 1 company uses on a very limited basis?...an engine that displaces 1.3 liters or so yet gets horrible gas mileage and sub par performance? Wow that must mean they got a winner...lol! The flaw with your logic is that you speak in terms of absolutes which is why you are always wrong (ie:Germans believing rotary engines would never work). As far as reliability is concerned a Timex 5 dollar watch is reliable and sell a lot more than lets say a rolex but guess which is more desireable. After all we are talking about desireability when describing luxury. This leads me to my next point. Why is the new S class better than the new LS? Besides new body panels and a new dash there is nothing that seperates a 2007 LS460 from a 2014. They are exactly the same car. Same drivetrain, frame and technology. Thats why they sit on dealer lots all over the country and can be bought for invoice while their is a 6-8 month wait on a new S class. Sclasses transaction prices are roughly 40% more than the LS460 yet guess who has 30,000 pre orders on their new flagship. These cars are not even in the same league. Don't even get me started outside of the U.S.

The new S-Class is starting to appear more and more on the streets of NYC. What a commanding presence. That car has an aura to it.
