Has Toyota Finally Turned The Corner With Their New "No More Boring Cars" Philosophy?

Has Toyota Finally Turned The Corner With Their New

Kevin Hunter knew he had a winner.

Presenting a full-sized model of Toyota's next-generation sports car concept to a roomful of executives in Nagoya was going to be a pressure-packed performance. What if Toyota Motor CEO Akio Toyoda didn't like the car? What if the Japanese design chief wanted big changes made? Would there be enough time to make changes before the public unveiling at the Detroit auto show in January, less than nine months away?

But Hunter, the quiet, reserved president of Toyota's Calty Design Research studio in Newport Beach, Calif., had an ace up his sleeve.

Boring cars has been in Toyota's blood line and like they say blood is thicker than water. It would take a major miracle for Toyota to finally get rid of their non-boring cars philosophy as seen in their most boring cars the world, the Camry and the all new Corolla even with the complete redesign it's so boring and dated and makes you just want to yawn. Lexus on the other hand is going the other direction with the ugliest designs in their latest disaster to rival the Pontiac Aztec, the LF-NX/Origami inlfuenced/Predator front end SUV.

What ppl fail to realize is building an image does not happen overnight.

Take Mercedes, critics say the only reason ppl buy the CLA is because of the badge, well do you know how HARD Mercedes has worked the better half of a Century to build that brand and badge appeal.

Toyota whole platform is built on reliability/dependability. Passion & Excitement is not a part of their portfolio and a few concepts is not going to change that

Blah blah blah say these clueless commenters.

"Mercedes has worked hard..."

So you're comparing Mercedes to Toyota? Do you think they play in the same market? Oh wait, with how Mercedes are cheapening their cars, they probably will be in the same league in about 3 years.

"Boring cars has been in Toyota's blood line"

Another stupid clueless rant from a non-driver. Have you seen Toyotas in the 90's and 80's? Probably not since you never owned a vehicle. You just form ideas based on what you read from people here, who just happen to be the most lame-brained, illogical, irrational, unreasonably biased bunch.

Sometimes I wish they stay away from their keyboard and actually go out, get a job, get a licence, and drive the cars they comment on but know absolutely nothing about.

And btw, please refrain from commenting under different names. You're really not fooling anyone.

GG123 you sound remarkably like JDMUSMuscle, or like the Democraps, blame others for exactly what you do... Toyotas/Lexus are boring refrigerators without a soul... empty appliances...

Cars are appliances...and they do not have souls. To think otherwise is delusional. Certainly, design and performance can evoke emotional responses in auto enthusiasts. As most people are not, we have a lot of bland designs with so-so performance, and they are selling like hotcakes.

Misplaced political ideological digs are completely unnecessary and more telling of your emotional age.

Toyota brand has started the change with all current models, most notable is the FJ Cruiser, Venza, RAV4, Corolla, and Avalon. Evaluation is exactly what will keep them the number one brand is the US.

Toyota is capable of producing cars that are fun to drive. But they have nothing on the market that can be described as such.

this would be the most exciting car in their lineup since the supra.

The FT1 looks like a JC Whitney body kit on an Eclipse. It is that laughably wrong. If this is a sample of their brilliance then they are dead in the water. They took Lexus garish thinking that was exciting styling. The JDM Toyota faces are horrid on the Crown. Toyota needs to hand their styling off to someone. Is the GT86/FRS/BRZ really the best they can do. Even that car is a yawn.

The LFA was regarded as top rated if not best in the Supercar category, on first effort makes this amazing. The FRS as best in the entry level, better than cars costly nearly twice as much. Next stop mid-priced sports car.

The 2015 Mustang will be--yet again--a great reason NOT to buy an FRSBRZGT86.
