PRICING Announced For The All-New 2015 Cadillac Escalde — Is GM's Escalade Priced A Bit Too RICH?
One thing that has always astounded me is how many Escalades Cadillac manages to sell. In the New York Tri-State region they're pretty common vehicles. And for a glorified Tahoe, it's not all that reasonably priced as a 2014 Escalade starts at a base price of $67,970.

Well, for 2015 you better start putting your nickels and dimes in a piggy bank. That's because the 2015 Escalade will start at a base price of $71,695. Here's the kicker: all-wheel drive costs another $2,600 smackers.

To General Motors' credit, it's clear that the all-new 2015 model has more standard equipment than the old model; however, when you compare it to a base BMW X5 xDrive50i and Mercedes-Benz GL450, which start at $68,200 and $64,550, it seems a bit steep.

So, we have to ask: is GM's Cadillac Escalade priced a bit TOO RICH for the market?

Yes, way too expensive already.

The people who would choose this overpriced American junk over the real SUVs like BMW X5 and Mercedes GL just have no clue what they are paying for.

This is simply nothing but GM arrogance, and we thought they learned the lesson from the whole bankruptcy issue that happened years ago.

To be honest, Cadillac is just like Lincoln today. People seem to think Cadillac is somehow "back", but it isn't. Who buys an XTS? Never seen one around here. ATS, no one is interested in some compact American junk. And ugly, too. Cadillac SRX, was it designed to be a chick car? Because looks like one. The whole lineup of Caddy today is simply laughable, and GM actually thinks Cadillac is back. Hey, except for the ignorant Americans and some Canadians, who even sees Cadillac as a status symbol?

Because those who are well educated, and have taste in cars, would never look at anything American. Not even Japanese as well.

Always European, especially German. Because only the Europeans make the "real" automobiles that are utterly unrivaled in the entire world.

the one thing the Escalade has over any of its foreign competition is its sheer physical size. For much of fat-*ss middle America, nothing but the biggest, largest, most behemoth vehicle will do. This is why the F-150 has grown to ridiculous, enormous size over the last 20 years, and why the Escalade will continue to sell well. It is because much of America has a huge sense of self-entitlement, equates interior room as bang-for-buck, and feels no responsibility and even hostility towards the environment and other drivers on the road.

The F150 has been pretty much the SAME SIZE the past 20 years.

The price is hardly ridiculous and the Escalade has a loyal following.

If you need to do serious towing (larger boat or horse trailer), there are limited options in the luxury SUV segment. You will not see an X5 do the same duty.

If people are willing to pay the price, why wouldn't GM charge at this level. It's a free market.

As if anyone walks out of a BMW or Mercedes dealership with zero options. And options on German imports are typically pretty pricey. So the Caddy is at a competitive enough price point and considering how posh it looks I expect it to sell no worse than its predecessor.

$73,000 and no headlight washers? LOL

Seriously? Lived in the snow belt for a while and have never needed headlight washers. Getting gas... There is a squeegee. Takes all of 20 seconds to wipe them off. Those little sprayers do next to nothing. Probably the most ridiculous post on this site I've seen yet.

Oh, but of course you do 'need' all the other useless gimmicks and dumb nonsense an Escalade does come with, right? Uh huh. Clearly you have no idea how satisfying and necessary heated headlight washers are for commuting in the crap that flies up from roads in the winter. For this to be absent on a $73,000 SUV is a complete joke.

With the overall quality now, I really dont see the whole issue with the price. BMW and Mercedes start lower, but tack on the options and you'll how far the price tags goes.

It's really hard to compare an Escalade to a GL let alone an X5. Like Jeff said an X5 will tow no where near as much, sit as many people, or in as much comfort as an Escalade. A GL lessens the size and towing gap but its still smaller. Don't get me wrong, many who own Escalades or most large vehicles would probably be better suited in a smaller vehicle but for those that require the size, the Escalade can't be beat. I'd bet my money on the Cadillac reliability too. Also the dealer networks suck if you live outside of a metro area for any German/Japanese luxury brand. Good luck fixing that GL or X5 when traveling in the UP of Michigan or across the state of North Dakota for example. Add in the fact that your 72k stays in the US and its a no brainer if you ask me. GM and cadillac have come a long way... at least give credit where credit is deserved. (This comes from a guy who owns both foreign and domestic brands.)

kinda expensive - but then again range rover is really the only other full size suv out there with this kind of cache. the gl is nice, but not an escalade. its pretty much range rover, escalade, lx570 , qx56 and navigator . the others are a lot smaller.
