Infiniti Determined To Become Relevant Again In The Luxury Market
Executives are marching along a well-worn path as they look to reinvigorate the Infiniti brand in the U.S. and turn it into a viable competitor to Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Lexus in the luxury-vehicle segment worldwide.

The formula they are following is the same one perfected by the very marques Infiniti hopes to challenge: An expanded product lineup, consistent brand messaging, market discipline and a financially strong dealer network that delivers the kind of retail experience top-end customers demand.

Infiniti took a small, first step forward in its revival with the new Q50 sedan launched last year as a more modern replacement for its G-series lineup (though the G37 remains in showrooms for now). But the big product moves won’t begin until next year, as the Nissan luxury brand launches a smaller, entry-level sedan and inches toward a broader vehicle lineup.

It most likely will with the former head of Audi now heading Infiniti and fresh platforms ordered from Mercedes for new SUV's, give them 2-3 yrs to develop new product and they will be on their way

They need someone with a clue as to styling. The current Infinitis are styling messes. As for the Mercedes connection, Mercedes will NEVER allow Nissan to have anything good of theirs.

Save Mitsubishi, Infiniti is the most irrelvant car company in the US. Do in think they'll survive, no, nonsensical change in naming structure, iffy design, mediorce to bad reviews, and "pie in sky" product planning. I don't think Goshen has the patience to wait out the mess that is Infiniti.

Nissan/Infiniti and Honda/Acura made two very similar mistakes. Nissan/Infiniti chose to sell the GT-R as a Nissan and Honda/Acura has taken too long to update the NSX. Audi made the RIGHT choice by releasing the amazing R8 and Lexus took a step further upmarket with the LF-A. Honda/Acura should start righting its ship when the NSX is (finally) released. But Infiniti may continue to struggle with an image issue if it continues to not have either a flagship S-Class fighter or a flagship supercar.

Why do the Japanese ever try to make luxury brands, when they already know they can never ever be on the same level as the mighty BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi?

To top it off, those German brands have extremely expensive models/brands to make their brand power even more stronger. For example, BMW has Rolls-Royce. Mercedes-Benz is trying to revive the Maybach name, so that the S class will have the most expensive model, S class Maybach and Volkswagen has Bentley and Lamborghini.

And what do the Japanese have? Lexus....ugh, boring. Infiniti....well, isn't it too late to save this brand somewhat? Acura....no comment.

And the Americans. Cadillac = lol. Lincoln....no comment.

Always, only bet on the Europeans for the luxury products.

if infiniti thinks they are bringing back greatness by naming everything Q- something, they have serious problems besides the crap that they offer.
using the old names, i think the g37 is the best thing they have ( affordable, practical, good value) , but the M line, fx, jx, qx, ex are just not cars you really lust after.

I don't understand all the panty wads over the name changes...simple line up now. All cars start with Q, all SUVs and Crossovers start with QX. The cars are Q50, Q60, and Q70 (Q30 and Q80 in the works). The SUV/Crossovers are QX50, QX60, QX70, and QX80. So easy a 5 yr old could figure it out.

JDSMUSMuscle, just because you want something to b true, doesn't make I so. For instance, you're critical of Japenese forays into the luxury arena by makers such as Lexus, Infiniti, and so on, while ignoring—particularly in the case of Lexus—that they have the foothold they need to challenge more established brands like BMW, Audi, and Mercedes.

Heck, even Hyundai is aiming for them with Equis. And that's not even say that I am particularly fond of Japanese or Korean makes, but you underestimate them at your own peril.

Acura is on the ropes, sidelined by mediocre design and uninspiring vehicles.

And your criticism of Cadillac is curious, if only because they're competitive with the best of the Germans RIGHT NOW.

But don't take my word for it, check out some reviews of the ATS and CTS sometime.

By the way, speaking of luxury makes, I would not be at all surprised if Caddy makes a version of the Escalade built specifically to woo Range Rover buyers.

You may poo-poo such a a notion, till you keep in mind that Range Rovers—in terms of build quality and amenities—weren't always as good as they are now.
