CAR WARS! Bargain Supercar Battle! Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. Nissan GT-R

CAR WARS! Bargain Supercar Battle! Chevrolet Corvette Z06 vs. Nissan GT-R
I have to admit, we've got a bit of a Duesy for you all to figure out. Though we asked you last night what you thought of the pricing on the all-new Nissan GT-R, we have a better question tonight.

Assuming the all-new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is priced around $100,000, would YOU have a Z06 OR a Nissan GT-R?

On the surface, this question is a bit ridiculous. That's because the Z06 has a rumbling V8, you can have it as a manual, it only has two seats and sends the power to the rear wheels. The GT-R, on the other hand, takes a much different approach with a twin-turbo six-cylinder motor and puts power down via an all-wheel drive system. Oh, and it changes cogs via a dual-clutch gearbox.

If the last-gen Z06 is anything to judge by, we think the all-new car will be a very hardcore experience that's not so focused on refinement as it is on putting down fast lap times. And we know the GT-R's forte is speed.

So, you have $100,000 and the chance to get two wildly different rides that have one common thread, speed. WHICH one would YOU have?

I've driven the GTR on a track. I also have part-time custody of a Stingray. The Stingray has much better manners because it was designed by people who like cars rather than people who play video games. I'd take the basic STINGRAY over the GTR. The steep price difference between the Stingray VS GTR begs the question of what you get and the answer is not much. Now fold in the "amazingness" of a ZO6 for a GTR price and the GTR becomes even less palatable.

As it has always been, it comes down to personal preference in which vehicle feels better to you and your driving style.

For some, they would take the $100k and head directly to their Porsche dealer, somebody is going to build a Noble, and a few are going to get a M6 long before they consider a GT-R or a Vette.

For me, it's a GT-R.

i think they are both awesome, its really a tough pick and i think you cant really go wrong with either one.
the corvette will probably be cheaper to maintain and probably more fun to drive- the downside to a z06 is that when you see a stingray you might see a whole bunch, there is basically one GTR - no cheap version really.
if the Zo6 had a dual clutch transmission, i think id definitely take it, otherwise - id take the stingray and still be very happy.
as useless as most people think rear seats are on the 911 and gtr, i wish the corvette was a 2+2 with such " useless seats" - you would be surprised at how many people i know with kids want corvettes but dont get them because of the 2 seat problem.

Hmm, this is interesting. Well, Corvette is just a Ferrari-wannabe, American junk that is meant to be driven by Average Joe people. I've never really seen the rich people driving one of those.

And Nissan GT-R is a ricer car that is mainly loved by street kids who can't afford and are jealous of BMW.

*sigh* if I were to choose either of them, I guess I would choose GT-R, because way too many Average Joes own Corvettes around here. At least, you don't see a lot of GT-Rs, that's because not many people want to pay 100k for a Nissan.

So, my choice is Porsche 911 Carrera S. A few thousand dollars cheaper than those two junk, but a lot more refined, and certainly Porsche 911 is one of the kings in the automobile world.

Or rather, why even pay 100k for a Nissan or Chevy? The Japanese and the Americans are unfortunately not capable of making cars that are worth that kind of money. For 100k, people would go for nicely equipped BMW M3 or Mercedes CLS.

The luxury European brands = Number 1. :)

Completely agree with your comments xjug. Every comment from JDMUS is inflammatory and without any hard data. This is a site for car lovers not haters.

AS most of the comments except one agree both cars are fun vehicles. I like the corvette Z06 styling over the GTR but like the all wheel drive Nissan. Most of us don't really race our cars but cruise them so for the person traveling a lap of the US the Corvette would be my car over the Nissan. My buds GTR is so loud and noisy at high ways speeds its unsettling. For the straight track the vette and for the oval the GTR.
I really like the vette after watching how its manufactured. The 4 lightweight material choices for the frame and body is a techno first. The removable carbon fiber roof panel another great feature on the vette. If the z is priced at $100k I will definitely consider it.

The Zo6, I believe, has not been driven or tested yet. Based on the current Stingray you have to figure that the ZO6 is going to be quite impressive Straightline should be at or close to the GTR. Handling in terms of raw #'s should above the GTR. The question will be how much confidence the driver is going to have at or near it's limits of handling and cornering. This is an area where the GTR excels. The GTR is capable of piling on power early out of a corner whithout fear of sudden oversteer.Where will the ZO6 be on this.In terms of quality and refinement you would have to say that the current Stingray is probably 80 to 85% of a 911. If quality is your number one issue than accept less performance and go with the Porsche. If performance #'s mean the most than it's either the GTR or ZO6.Frankly for the money there are 2 other alternatives to the 911 even if the performance will not match a GTR. 1)The Corvette Stingray-Again quality and refinement do not match a 911. However it's about 85 % there. Further straightline is very similar and handling is very close.Advantage your saving 40 grand over the price of a 911.2)Jaguar F Type R Coupe.Performance straightline is going to fall inbetween a GTR/ZO6 and the base 911 and Stingray. It's quality is probably 95% of a 911. It's handling is dramatically improved over the convertable, and it's much prettier in shape to a 911 and perhaps the Stingray. It's 911 money but look what you get.For my money I might just go with the Jag. There are so many 911's out there you could trip over them. It's more exclusive and refined than a ZO6 or GTR with performance that is not far off.Lot more chioces now in the sportscar/GT arena than ever before.

Comments like "these cars are junk" is pure ignorance or just someone trying to be controversial. Neither is junk. Both are competent and designed for specific markets. Not everyone is trying to be a Ferrari and some would say Porsche's are over priced and ugly. Just because its European, doesn't make it better. There is no doubting the legacy and heritage of both Ferrari & Porsche, no doubt about the standards each strives for and achieves, however both the Vette and Godzilla are not made by small companies with a singular focus. They strive for a different market. The new Vette is superb and the GT-R is nonetheless and over achiever. I've never driven either so I can only go on what my tastes would be. I saw a new Vette (red convertible) on the highway on Friday and it was fantastic. There is legacy, there is history, pedigree and its a special car. I'm not a fan of any Japanese cars, so my choice would naturally be a Vette. If I had $100K to spend on a car, I'd probably say neither car would be my choice. There is alot of iron available for $100K so, when I am in that market I suppose I will consider it more carefully. Its kind of like saying, "who'd your rather: Marissa Miller or Christie Brinkley"...

I've never had the pleasure of driving either car (previous models in the case of the Vette). However, I live outside of Boston. I would take the GT-R, get the Blizzak's ready for the winter, and have a 4 season daily driver.

Interesting article. Apparently up to 15% of buyers actually care what online reviews say.
