So Much For World Domination - Volkswagen Sales Crater In January Down 19%

Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) today reported 23,494 units delivered in January.

“With our planned wind down of models in run-out, our January sales results were expectedly impacted,” said Mark Barnes, Vice President, Sales, Volkswagen of America, Inc.  “Nonetheless, we’re optimistic we will see a steady pace in the months ahead as our Super Bowl advertisement, “Wings,” continues to raise awareness of the reliability and durability of our products, and we prepare to launch the next generation Golf family of vehicles.

Volkswagen’s 60-second Game Day advertisement “Wings” featured iconic German engineers and centers around the VW’s 100,000 mile claim – that the brand has the most vehicles on the road with over 100,000 miles*.

Last week, Volkswagen teased its 2014 Game Day spot with “Algorithm.”  The series of teasers gave viewers a glimpse of what the Big Game spot might have looked like if Volkswagen had handed the creative reins over to the brand’s quirky and enthusiastic German engineers. The teaser pokes fun at Volkswagen’s perfectionist culture while “Wings” celebrates our engineers’ devotion to the design of our vehicles.

wow. those year over year numbers are vile. I expect everyone at the VP level will be fired ...except the very top Execs and CEO will of course be allowed to still keep their jobs. It's not as if the entire direction of a company can be really blamed on the very top guy in charge.

What's really important in todays corporations is to maintain the ability of the very very top Execs and CEO to keep collecting their huge paychecks and $$$ huge bonuses.

VW ignores the market and this is the result. The Jetta simply is not a good Corolla/Civic competitor. The Passat is not a good CamCord competitor.

Where is the Passat Hybrid? Where is the Passat plug in hybrid to battle the Fusion Energi? Where is the VW Avalon? Where is their true competitor to the CRV/RAV4? Where is their 7 passenger crossover? Where is their GT86 competitor? Where is their Mustang? Where is their Prius?

Where is the Polo? Where is the Amarok? Where is the UP? Where is the Yeti? Yes it's a Skoda, but it begs to be sold here.

Time to KILL the VW Toerag and the hopelessly wrong CC. Time to leave the Scirocco in Europe.

If you loved the turn of the century, just visit a VW dealer and seat in their cars. You'll feel like it is 2001 all over again.

fyi VW outsold GM for the number 2 spot in its bid for "worldwide domination"... while doing poorly in the U.S.
