Jeep To Unveil Fiat 500 Based Crossover - But Can You Accept This As A Real Jeep?

Jeep is set to unveil a new Nissan Juke rival at March’s Geneva Motor Show, and it’s expected to be called Jeepster. So far, the Fiat 500L-based mule in our spy shots is all we’ve seen of the new model, but our exclusive main image gives a good idea of how it will look.

We’ve been told by bosses before that the compact SUV would take inspiration from the iconic Jeep Wrangler, which explains the boxy proportions, round headlights and upright seven-bar grille. The squared-off wheelarches are also a signature Jeep styling cue.

Under the skin is the Fiat Group’s Small Wide platform, which currently underpins the 500L and 500L MPW, but will also form the basis of the 500X crossover. Both cars are set to be built at Fiat’s factory in Melfi, Italy, from the middle of this year.

As it’s a Jeep, you can expect there to be a focus on off-road ability – the American brand prides itself on its models’ class-leading rugged ability. Expect four-wheel drive to be offered across the range, along with clever hill descent technology for driving down steep, muddy tracks.

I can accept it as a real Jeep, sure, considering I've been accepting total and utter garbage as "real Jeeps" for a long, long time. In fact it's going to take a lot to make any vehicle "too shitty to be a Jeep" at this point.

Is it so hard to keep the road worthy versions of their vehicles branded as Fiat and the off-road SUVs branded as jeeps? Just a question.

First, Jeep people have put untold hours into the B segment vehicle nearly starting from scratch on the structure doing substantial development in Chrysler structural analysis group in India. So cut the Fiat POS non-sense.
Second, the primary market focus is the EU and Southern Asia not America so use of Italian production capacity makes sense. It too small for NA.
Third, I know people have seen it and this is too close.
Forth, relax if don't like don't buy it

Oh yes, Jeep has always made quality products. Especially if we ignore anything made by AMC. We might as well ignore Compass, Patriot & Commander too. If you knock out all the BS, this baby Jeep will probably have better quality than any of the aforementioned Jeeps. As for FIATS 4X4 capability, look at Top Gear's comparison between Land Rover & the Panda 4X4.
