Indeed, because they were inspired by Honda. Honda designs are some of the best in the industry right now, something Ferrari wish they could beat one day (But Ferrari seems to be strongly inspired by the last gen Mazda3 these days though)

After the shaky early to mid 2000s, it seems Mercedes-Benz has found its "happy place."

It all seems to lead back to the wide mouth grille from the SLS AMG, which was inspired by the 300SL and revived by the late 1980s SEC coupes.

This actually looks pretty nice.

I can see they got inspired by the last gen Honda Accord coupe (Its side profile looks quite similar), which was a stunning automobile (And an amazing supercar, too).

And I just went to that website and I can see I was not the only person who thought of it.

But then again, we all know why Mercedes had to steal design language from Honda. This is because Mercedes does not know how to design cars to begin with.

Germans should keep learning from the Japanese. So that one day, just one day, they might be able to make a car that does not break for at least one week. And, a car that actually looks original.

I do not understand why you are so bitter, were you fired by Mercedes???

The profile of the S class coupe looks nothing like the Accord. Hyundai and Lexus have been using Mercedes as their blueprint for years.

where do you think the previous Genesis got its grill from-Mercedes

Lexus dubbed their own flagship LS a Japanese S Class.

Just chill, in the end Benz Wins, get over it

Why would I be fired by Mercedes, when I am not even interested in working for a company that sells overpriced European junk to begin with? I want to work for a decent automaker like Toyota/Lexus or Ford or Cadillac. Not garbage automaker. No offence.

And you don't see Accord? Ha ha ha this is why the Europe worshippers are the worst. Are you blind? Or never seen Accord coupe before? Have you visited the link that is provided there?

And Mercedes has been stealing a lot from Chrysler. Ever wondered why SLS AMG looks like Dodge Viper?

Mercedes is one of the most overrated brands in the entire world. Only the Europe worshippers try to see it as a status symbol, but really, it fails to keep up to date.

"Decent Automaker like Toyota/Lexus", you mean the same automaker that had to pay families off that lost their lives or seriously injured others after buying what they too thought was a decent vehicle due to unintentional acceleration

You must be delusional

If Honda has such hot designers, why are their Acura designs so consistently awful for the last 15 years? That front beak has yet to change - nobody, NOBODY has ever praised Acura for its appearance - can you honestly defend Honda's design team for the visual insult that is Acura design?

By the way, can anyone tell me why anyone should buy this fake, Honda Accord Coupe wannabe vehicle over Accord Coupe?

And I kind of don't understand why Mercedes wanted to ruin their CL design. I think that was pretty distinctively Mercedes.

But then again, I guess now they just realize how beautiful Honda vehicles look in general, so it makes sense as to why they were inspired by Accord Coupe.

What do you mean? I am only here trying to educate the badgewhores so that they may see the truth.

Mercedes already stole a lot from Chrysler and made SLS AMG. Ever wondered why the car looks a lot like Viper?

And when Hyundai steals design of other automakers, people always make fun of them. But not this?

Ohh, because it's German. Because it's Mercedes-Benz.

Or can you say I am wrong? I'm pretty sure the Europe worshippers would say I am wrong, because they obviously want to deny. But the fact is, I am right.

I am first to point out the flaws of ANY automaker's products regardless of origin.

I have blasted VW for my very own Touareg, which had MAJOR reliability issues countless times. So, please, save it.

I'll say it until the day I die — I LOVE anything with four wheels, provided it's good. :)

The current CL is clearly the nicest big MB Coupe since W126 500SEC, all the others were quite forgettable from a styling and reliability perspective. This new Couple will further the MB Coupe cause because it'll be an "S" Class vs CL. CL has a C in it, which though not ever remotely related to a C Class has not allowed these coupes to be considered as prestigious as other luxury marque, coupes. I don't think its as pretty as the Elmiraj but that is a personal perspective. Certainly showing it in Black helps it cars presence. Anyone know if its on the S Class platform or is it another?

I really think this new S-Class coupe is going to elevate Mercedes to some rare air where Audi and BMW won't be able to come close to touching them. The S-Class sedan already has set an incredible benchmark. Now the coupe takes Mercedes head-on into the Bentley arena. Yes, the previous CL was an incredible machine, but its styling just wasn't dynamic enough especially compared to the Continental GT. Cannot wait to see the AMG versions of this new coupe. Great job, MB!

Yes, the previous CL was an incredible machine, but its styling just wasn't dynamic enough especially compared to the Continental GT."

Audi and BMW already do not compete in this space. The 6-series coupe is nowhere near as luxurious as the Mercedes-Benz S-class Coupe (formerly CL) and nowhere near as expensive either.

Bentley arena? People buy a Bentley for its heritage, prestige, quality and rareness. A Mercedes-Benz does not have nearly the same luxury, upper-crust prestige and rareness as a Bentley, even the Continental GT. This fact is made even more obvious by the sub $30K CLA hack job.

I guarantee you when Audi does enter this arena, which it likely will with its rumored flagship A9 coupe, it will achieve awesome sales numbers (relatively speaking). The luxury will be even better than the S-class coupe's.

The S-class coupe/CL never sold in big numbers and this new version won't change that.

Good point about Bentley, MB is definitely targeting Bentley (from Car & Driver):
"Daimler hopes that after killing off its Maybach über-luxury brand, the S-class will be considered the best car in the world. Therefore, the coupe must venture deep into Bentley Continental GT territory, and offer a level of luxury and performance on par with the handbuilt vehicles that roll out of Crewe. With no comparable offerings from Audi or BMW, the S-class coupe aims to help prove that Mercedes is the quintessential luxury brand."

I bet you are. Because after all, "how can anyone challenge the 'fact'"?

This is the car only the badgewhores can love. If this car had a Hyundai logo, everyone will "instantly" know they stole the Accord design.

But then again, for a badgewhore like you, you would just love it because it is Mercedes. Are you Vietnamese by the way? Because of your name, just wondering.

JDM - I don't drive a Mercedes nor do I aspire to buy one any time soon. As for my ethnicity, yes it is and it's my real name, too. What's yours? So much for hiding. As to "facts" on a car design, that's almost as productive as discussing politics and religion. That's why the word "opinion" exists.

"seemed to hate Japanese cars in general"? You should go back and check my postings JDM. I've complimented Toyota and Honda plenty, I've repeatedly mentioned how impressive it is for them to recover from the catastrophe of tsunami, nuclear disaster and Thailand flood. I've also remarked on how GM and Hyundai cars were able to gain recently only because it was done at the expense of this supply crisis for Honda and Toyota, only to lapse back to where they belong, behind Toyota and Honda. Similarly I've called out 009 on how Toyota really proved the world wrong with their Prius. It seems like you're the one that is being defensive about Japanese cars.

I love the new benz but I do not feel bad cause JDMUSMuscle, I have a lot of friends that really hate Benzes But still I am willing to give my life for them and I feel sure that they also appreciate me even if I do not like the same brands as them. We have to learn that there is not rules for taste. BTW we are all the same, I do not see names I see humans, Do not get me wrong for me a CL is not an Accord but if JDMUSMuscle is not able to see the difference is ok for me. I am Engineer and Industrial designer and I do see the difference, But not everybody is designer. Do I think that a children that do not see any difference between 2 different designs is stupid? Of course no, Everyone is different and all have different advantages and disadvantages. So we have to tolerant. Please talk about cars, inside we are all the same thing, flesh and blood.

I don't really think a historically ignorant man like you has any idea about designing in general to be honest.

You said before that the Americans save the Europeans all the time. Do you still live in the 1940's? There are many good reasons as to why America is great today, but bringing up a WWII story in 2014 clearly shows a lot about your historical knowledge.

And not only that, the United States is not a "person" but a country, and a lot of wackos of America made the WWII worse. You might want to study the histories of General Motors and Ford for that.

And I'm sorry, I can't see the difference between Accord Coupe and the S class coupe. Can you tell me the difference on their side profiles? "Ohh, look at those uh, some lines, they kind of look different" If it is something like this, then I can clearly see how smart you really are as an individual. No offense.

And we are not talking about human beings, we are talking about cars here. You are the only one who is getting into something that is utterly off topic. Are you dumb or something?

Reading through JDMUSMuscle's version of the "facts" here and elsewhere, it's clear that he or she probably has some kind of borderline personality disorder. His (or her posts) are useless and add nothing of value to the Autospies comments except for a creepy feeling that there is something deeply wrong with him or her and attention is all he/she wants, even if it is negative attention.

There are people who agree with me, and they agree, because they do not choose to blindly listen to the mainstream media.

And unfortunately, you are blind.

I have only stated that the car looks a lot like Accord Coupe, and all I see is a bunch of Europe worshippers deboosting my comments, which is just laughable.

May I ask, does that car not look like Accord Coupe? This has been the whole point of my argument on this, and I wonder why you are getting so defensive?

JDM--You are a wanker. Other then the fact all coupes have a, well, coupe profile, there is little the homely Honda and the stunning S-coupe have in common. For starters, it's evident by the stance, position of the greenhouse and front overhang the Accord is front drive. Whereas the M-B's greenhouse sits back further on the body giving a proportionally longer hood, shorter deck--that, along with shorter overhangs give it a rear wheel drive stance. Also, perhaps you missed the little detail that the upper character line on the Benz rises from back-to-front where the Hondas dives down to the front. And the S-coupe has a lower character line where there's none on the Honda. The Honda's greenhouse profile starts out looking like a sedan then drops behind the b-pillar into a fastback. The S profile has a nearly continuous arc beginning at it's more leaned back windshield. Plus, the Honda has a b-pillar the Mercedes is pillarless. The front of the Honda cants back the M-Bs front profile is nearly erect. Look at the wheel to opening relationship on the two cars, the Mercedes wheels fill the space nicely the gap above the Accord's tires make it look a little like roller skate.
Shall I go on or have I made my point? There's an old saying you may consider before spouting off, "Look before you leap."
