UK Votes To Make Smoking In Cars With Children Illegal - How About Here?

MPs voted in favour of a ban on smoking in cars carrying children
 
Smoking in cars carrying children is on course to be banned after MPs voted overwhelmingly in favour of the proposals in the House of Commons.

Lighting up on the school run or family outings can now be made illegal with the Commons vote giving Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt the power to bring in a law.

The vote - passed by 376 votes to 107 - also gave the Welsh government the power to introduce it. Ministers must now decide if they want to make smoking in cars carrying children illegal in Wales.

I don't smoke, and don't like smoke in small places. That said this is the "land of the free and the home of the brave". We cant buy a 32oz Coke in NYC because "the Govt" thinks it knows more than we do. I don't think smoking in a car, house or anywhere there are children is right but the Govt simply doesn't have the right to enter my car or home. Until you let them, then whats next after that?

How about we ban smoking in cars period 1) Smoking is one of the most important causes of disease in this country and we can't afford to pay for future health care. 2) As I sit in traffic or drive behind the smokers blowing smoke out their windows or dangling their cigarettes out the window, the smoke is being sucked into my ventilation's air intake and it's often pretty concentrated.

I would hope that it would be common sense to not expose your children to toxic fumes of any kind. Since many people are lacking, then I think laws are appropriate in this kind of situation to protect children from stupid adults. Any children being placed in this situation today probably have enough problems at home with parents who lack good judgment.

There are currently 6 states plus Puerto Rico that ban smoking in the car with children, including my state of California. I wish every state would follow.

Sure, then they'll say you cant do this, in your house, or you cant do that... common sense is common sense. People either have or they don't. How many of your moms smoked while they were pregnant? Idiot politicians who cannot make in the real world have no business telling the citizens what they can and cant do in their houses.

You know if smoking is so bad why not just ban it? Because politicians want the tax money...
