UAW Criticizes Tennessee Senators For Volkswagen Organization Threats

The United Auto Workers sharply criticized the comments of a Tennessee state senator who warned that the state might not approve any new financial incentives for Volkswagen AG if workers vote to join the union.

The statement came as another prominent Republican on Tuesday urged VW workers not to join the UAW.

About 1,550 workers of the 2,500 at VW’s Chattanooga, Tenn., plant are eligible to vote. Voting overseen by the National Labor Relations Board begins Wednesday and continues through 8:30 p.m. Friday. The UAW said in September that a majority of workers had signed cards to join the union.

So... why should anyone sit back and allow the UAW to force its way into VW. If the "works council" is so good why didn't Mercedes, BMW & VW just bring it with them and tip off the other transplants. Hey this set up is really great! They came here to get away from unions why are they thousands of miles away from the center of union extortion? If the union is so great why don't other mfr's "ask" the unions to come fix their companies? If its so great why aren't employees of companies begging for vs fighting over unionization. Unions and the UAW are a cancer wherever they go everyone knows it. If they take such good care of their members why not allow each members dues to go to the candidates of THEIR choice? Im sure not every person forced to join the UAW if the want a job at GM, Ford or FCM wants their dues going to Democraps, but the unions purchase influence from Democraps, exclusively. Its actually money laundering really. Force folks into the union, take dues directly out of their checks, and then send it to Democraps. Its a racket! Why "once in, always in", why not allow members to re-certify the union every 2 years, so "leadership" is focused on the members exclusively? Not a single current member of the UAW actually voted to have the union in their plant, its just always been there. Why do you think global companies close plants and move them to lower cost areas? Companies are in business to make stuff and sell it at a profit. People are expenses, benefits are expenses. Detroit is a perfect example of Democrap + Union collaboration. A once glorious town that has been destroyed by the these 2.

your entire rant about "Democraps" and the UAW ignores the very FACT that Republicans constantly mouth off on Fox News about the "Free Market" and "Government keeping its dirty hands off of private business"....yet here we are in real life witnessing that Republicans will interfere with private business and the "free market" all they want when it suits their political needs.

Excuse me while I throw your entire right wing dogma-filled rant in the garbage can where it belongs while you ignore the constant and self-evident HYPOCRITICAL bilge spewing from the Republican-dominated government in Tennessee. Until you can address the fact that Republicans say one thing and do another in real life, then you can rant about the UAW.

Hey xjug1987a,

Great job of detailing the UAW situation. I wish I could write like that.

I had been considering the purchase of a Passat Diesel. Bought a BMW X5 Diesel instead. Sorry VW Chattanooga, I just could not risk the threatened association with the UAW.

Love the X5. Made in South Carolina by NON-UNION WORKERS who did a FANTASTIC job of building the thing.

Getting 35 MPG Highway, 30 MPG Combined (In a 5,000 pound vehicle).

CARS ARE FUN

Rockhead - I don't need to further explain myself, what I said is clear, to the point and correct. Perhaps you need to focus less on the Republicans and more on the criminality of the link between the Democraps and the Unions. How about giving 40% of Chrysler to the Union, and 5% of GM, but the shareholders and investors got the shaft, then the taxpayers lost another $10B....you have no response because there isn't one.... Pathetic...

You're a total asshole Rockhead. As pointed out earlier, it's odd that the GOP only says keep government out when it helps their billionaire friends steal money. Crazy whack job Senator from TN is ready to jump right in there to interfere with what should be the employees choice. Unions don't ruin things. People do. Especially, when you have regressive politics running the show for long periods of time. If you want to do a little study in recent history the unpaid wars, and lax government control over lending are mostly responsible for the economic crash of 2007. You won't find one non right wing or non Faux News type person blame the crash on union workers. You're just stupid, ignorant, mean, and I'm confident no good in general.

Just an FYI. Based on what you wrote, I think you meant to address your comment to Xjug, not rockreid.
