GM Recalls 778,000 After Faulty Ignition Switches Cause 6 Deaths

General Motors is recalling about 619,000 small cars in the United States because either a heavy key ring or a “jarring event” such as running off the road could cause the ignition to shut off and possibly prevent the air bags from deploying in a crash, the automaker said in a report posted today on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website. The vehicles affected by the recall are the 2007 Pontiac G5 and the 2005-7 Chevrolet Cobalt.

In addition to the vehicles being recalled in the United States, another 153,000 in Canada and 6,100 in Mexico are being recalled.

In a separate news release, G.M. said it knew of six deaths in five crashes in which the front air bags did not deploy.

@JDMUSMuscle...American Automakers aren't the only ones with serious recalls, I'm sure the victims and families whose lives forever changed from unintentional acceleration in Toyota/Lexus vehicles would agree.

Is that the only thing you can bring up? Toyota already paid billions of dollars for it, and Toyota used the "U.S." made brake system. It is sad to see Toyota paying for all the damage when it was that stupid third party company from the U.S. that caused the problems. Ever wondered why the recall thing was never really an issue in Japan?

Audi got into the same situation years ago, but what did they do? Nothing.

And Chrysler kept making garbage vehicles for "decades", the kind of vehicles that totally ignore the safety of people.

You see, they say ignorance is bliss.

If you search for "Chrysler sucks" on Youtube, you will find a lot of Chrysler related news videos there.

Jeep Grand Cherokee had a misplaced fuel tank, which can burn down the vehicle if rear-ended, minivan's seatbelts not even meeting the safety standard of the industry, etc.

And what did Chrysler do? Did they even RECALL?

Once again, ignorance is bliss. Stay ignorant. In fact, you really should stay ignorant.

"Is that the only thing you can bring up? Toyota already paid billions of dollars for it"-WOW

The fact that you think because Toyota threw money at a family's loss, that family's pain and Toyota's negligence should be forgotten says a lot about your character.

I brought it up because you immediately jumped to "Tsk tsk tsk, American",and seemed to have caught a case of amnesia regarding your precious Japanese automaker

"The fact that you think because Toyota threw money at a family's loss, that family's pain and Toyota's negligence should be forgotten says a lot about your character."

Lol!! Funny comment. Let me hear, what was Toyota supposed to do more? Billions of dollars is already a huge damage to a company. And you think it is just a "mere" money here. We are not talking about just millions.

But once again, an idiot, can never understand how the economy even works.

And I said tsk tsk tsk, American, because? It is always the same thing. I did not say anything about Japanese, my point was the usual case about the American automakers. But you got all butt-hurt to hear my comment and brought up Toyota for almost no reason.

Seriously, your comments always make me laugh. Your comments really show your stupidity, flatout.

And Toyota at least took all the responsibility by responding to it.

So, where is your argument on Audi and Chrysler?

Oh sorry, you are not even intelligent enough to defend them here. You avoiding to talk about them already shows it all. Sorry, my bad.

I'm glad you have found a source of laughter, being as you are the joke of this site, and no one said billions of dollars is "mere" as you quoted for no reason.

You really thought that because Toyota paid for damages they caused, the whole situation should be forgotten???

You are delusional. That's like JP Morgan paying their billions in fees and everyone saying, ok now we completely trust you 100% again

STOP IT

I agree, they need to Ban you, you just spew ignorance

It is pretty funny how you are still unable to see how funny you sound overall.

Let's see. When did I say people should "forget" about it? Toyota already has gone through tons of economic damage due to this, and on top of it all, Toyota already has paid the ultimate price for such a grave mistake. If the consumers are willing to abandon Toyota just for this mistake that they've made, then GM, Ford and Chrysler should've been abandoned by the consumers DECADES ago.

And it's pretty funny how you still are not telling me what Toyota should do other than paying billions of dollars for their mistake. That is pretty much already a big thing a corporation can do, we are not talking about some individual here. Are you that stupid?

And I personally do not wish to see anyone getting banned, as I am not as childish as you are. No offense, but you really should learn how to argue. Oh wait, maybe that's still pointless for you, unfortunately. No offense, though.

Neither Chrysler or Audi built their brands based on reliability.

Toyota betrayed the trust of their core consumers that mostly buy them for reliability because they sure aren't buying Toyota's for design, performance, or driving dynamics

Do some research instead of always making yourself sound clueless

So, since Chrysler and Audi never built their brands based on reliability, they are allowed to make run-away cars, cars with seatbelt issues that already killed some people, and such?

You really are quite a disturbing individual. Not only are you dumb, your logic is utterly flawed and have some strangely disturbing idea on things.

Toyota did betray the trust of their core consumers, indeed. This is true, and they paid the price. Which is why Toyota is so desperate to gain their trust again from their consumers.

But what did GM and Chrysler do? They asked for the taxpayer money, even though they have been building trash for decades. When will they take responsibility for the deaths that were caused by their vehicles?

And at least it is good to see GM doing something about it this time. But the American engineering's image already has been tarnished decades ago.

Do some research? You are telling me? This is just laughable and that is simply an understatement. It is always funny to argue with an idiot like you.

This is your comment, and read it again, to see how dumb you sound.

Since you do know that you are utterly unable to argue against me on this, now you resort to name-calling. So, tell me. What is Toyota supposed to do more? Because paying billions of dollars is still not enough, right, kid? And Audi and Chrysler argument of yours is just so laughable.

And like I said, kids with low IQ are not very good at arguing anyway. I really thank you for bringing up the whole IQ thing here.

And how does an IQ test exactly weed out someone like me? Do you even know my IQ? Oh sorry, I won't tell you since you might cry in your bed.

I really feel sorry for you. I really do. Do you even have friends?

And you are telling me to get a job now? Haha, why don't you take a look at the very first comment of yours on this first, and slowly read your comments here one by one?

And you will know that you were just so desperate to poke a hole, but miserably failed.

Yes, say whatever you want. Oooh! get a job! Ohh work and get a better car!

That's all you can say, why? Because you are not good at arguing anyway (Since you are quite uneducated and dumb), might as well be good at swearing, at least, right? Hahaha

Still going? Pretty laughable. And how are you going to "expose" anything, when you "never" answered any of my questions?

I really feel sorry for you. Do you even have a degree? I am a PhD student, what about you, kid?

Oh sorry....I guess, you are a highschool drop out? Tsk tsk tsk. No job, can't even afford a car, so all you can do is to show your stupidity to your superior on the internet.

You should be glad that I have the time to waste on people like you. Be happy, smile! ;)

By the way, I will no longer comment here, since it is obvious you are completely unable to answer any of my questions and are afraid to even challenge my arguments.

If I see your next reply here and if it was something like the other comments of yours like "Ohh you are so dumb! I won! I won! lol!!" without answering any of my questions that are listed above, then I guess that will ultimately prove that you are not intelligent enough to even challenge my arguments.

So, show me. Is acting like a clown all you can do? ;) I bet it is. I really feel sorry for you. I bet your reply is going to be something like,

"Ohh I won! I won!! Look at me!! I am so smart, Toyota sucks! Get a job! hahaha!!"

I really feel sorry for you, friend. I really do. You are simply pathetic. Buh bye
