MORE Shots Of The All-New BMW 2-Series Active Tourer — ENOUGH Utility And Space?
As I just produced the last BMW 2-Series Active Tourer story, I realized by the time I was done inserting the images that there were no interior shots. Well, fear not, Spies.
Here you are.
Though BMW will likely say it's starting a new segment with Active Tourers, I'll skip the Marketing speak and call it what it really is — an MPV. Essentially it's a minivan with a proper door and not a slider.
These vehicles tend to be known for their versatility and spaciousness. From the studio shots it appears to have the space element down but I am not entirely convinced about how much utility one can actually get out of it. Obviously I'll have to wait and see in the flesh but it doesn't look like that rear cargo hold is any bigger than a Volkswagen Golf.
Then again, what is this really competing against? The Mercedes-Benz B-Class or GLA-Class? Both of those products are teeny.
Anyhow, scroll through the shots below and let us know your thoughts!
Does it appear to have enough utility and space for an MPV?

Absolutely awful and pathetic. If it's a four-door car it should have an ODD number designation NOT an EVEN number designation according to BMW. BMW itself said all odd numbered cars would be sedans and even-numbered cars would be coupes and convertibles.
Here we have an ODD NUMBERED SEDAN. This should be badged a 1-series not a 2-series.
What is the difference between this and the BMW X1?
The interior space seems very similar. BMW is rapidly losing focus.

OK, we all get you're PRO-Audi and all, but to write not one or two but THREE posts about BMW's stupid nomenclature is ridiculous.
You, of all people, should know that Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are simply using the spaghetti method to put out products and grab as much market share by any means necessary.

Can you link the BMW Press Release where they stated "odd numbered cars would be sedans and even-numbered cars would be coupes and convertibles".

Awful and pathetic because of model naming conventions? Did someone with a BMW really hurt you bad GermanNut?

And you of all people should know better than to post multiple topics about the same subject.
Why have this article AND the "STUD or DUD: Is The All New BMW 2-Series..." BOTH regarding the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer?
Same thing goes for the JD Power Reliability Index Results. You have the "Lexus Schools The Industry...." AND "The Results Are In- But is Lexus Really..."

We post multiple threads about vehicles, @GermanNut.
If it had four rings you'd be masturbating right now...

I suspect the opposite may be true. GermanNut may actually be vigorously masturbating over all the negative votes he receives.

Having a family with young children, I would have liked it better if it had sliding doors and 3 rows of seats, even if the 3rd row is small but at least it gives the option of folding down for storage or up for the odd trip with guests. That segment is pretty popular in Europe and I think that's a pretty practical/flexible design.

There will be a slightly longer version of this coming soon, I believe the 2 Series Gran Tourer. It will be a 7 seater, but I'm not sure of the door configuration.

BMW needs to immediately apply some of those interior bits to the 3-series, that is nicer inside than the 3 is.

Even though those aren't "official" BMW sites, I'd wager that BMWNA's Marketing team created the copy you see written on it.

Still don't mention, "BMW itself said all odd numbered cars would be sedans and even-numbered cars would be coupes and convertibles." our anything close to it.

Still trying to understand this car. FWD, people mover, not quite minivan. The only way that this makes sense is if it is priced about $10k lower than the X1, which starts around $38k.

Don't worry, cidflekken, a lot of people are still trying to understand many of BMW's recent models.
If you can figure out why BMW should offer a 3-series sedan, 4-series Gran Coupe and 3-series GT, please let me know.
Assuming this 2-series Active Tourer is priced around $35K, if you can figure out why BMW should sell this model and the BMW X1, please let me know.

I'll give BMW credit for being willing to invest time, money, and resources to diversify its product range. I'm not necessarily saying I agree with it, but, in some ways, they're trying to push their product lines forward.
The risk might be that BMW is turning into the Toyota of the luxury market, and saturating the roads with their cars, therefore, eliminating any air of exclusivity. For this reason, I like the balance of risk-and-product-growth approach that Mercedes is taking a bit better.
This is something that has always frustrated me about Honda/Acura where they try a product, it doesn't sell in the volumes they want, and they abandon it (i.e., S2000, del Sol, Prelude, CL, ZDX, all Type S models, etc). They don't seem to understand the importance of having niche products in their lineups.

Usually, BMW just puts their standard kidney grille on a different shaped box to create the next new BMW...this time, they just stuck the kidney grille on a potato.

"Essentially it's a minivan withOUT a proper SLIDER and [only has] a door.
Fixed that for you.
I'll stay tuned for the 7-seat version. Might just replace my Mazda5 if it is at least as big, has sliding doors, and a decent engine option.
