Toyota Files Application To Secure Supra Name
With Toyota confirming a new sports car platform is being co-developed with BMW coupled with the reveal of the sublime FT-1 Concept in Detroit, news that the Japanese carmaker will build a new Supra is no surprise. But it's always nice to have confirmation. That now appears to have arrived after Toyota submitted an application to the US Patent and Trademark Office to secure rights to the “Supra” moniker.

Too bad it won't be a restyled FRS with a V6 under the hood

Back in the early 80's I owned a Toyota Supra. I loved the car and can't quite figure out why they stopped making it. They also had the Celica then too, which was nice, but was not the top gun like the Supra was for them.

My college roommate drove an '85 P-type with a stick. What a car!

Well, OK, it made more noise than actual performance, and it leaked oil faster than you can add some, but it was fun.

They stopped making it probably because it was too expensive to sell in any volume that Toyota was interested in.

This time around it appears to be much higher priced. Will it be a Corvette killer or will it be Supercar class at a bargain price?

nytimes, what is your story? Ahhh, it takes but a second to determine what it is... Ignorance.

gkearns56, wikipedia has some info on why the Supra was discontinued, essentially lack of sales in the late '90s (much like Nissan Z, Mazda RX7, Mitsu GTO).

This is where I like to see Toyota. Welcome back Supra! Now go and make good solid cars again and stop this non brand sense of Lexus and call the LS the Toyota Crown Super Saloon!
