REAL-LIFE Drive Day Photos Land In Our Exclusive +750 Shot Porsche Macan First Drive Gallery
Can Porsche make a repeat of the success of the Cayenne?  Our Agent 001 is in the midst of finding out if lightening can strike twice in the same place with the new Macan Crossover.

So where do you go to find out if they hit the mark? You go straight to the source, in this case Leipzig Germany and you drive the new Macan like it meant to be driven, full tilt across the countryside and hopefully stretch out on the Autobahn.

Our Agent at large will be posting his impressions very soon, but I just noticed another 150 shots have made it into our exclusive Macan first drive gallery and I wanted to pass on a few teasers for you.  Check them out and see firsthand what the Macan looks like up close and also enjoy the countryside along the way.

This will get alot of people that would have never shopped a Porsche... into a Porsche... regardless of what it was spawned from....

Except that the Macan base price is higher than the Cayenne, so it's not exactly a gateway into the brand.

Not true:
Macan S - $49,900 (0 - 60 @ 5.2 sec)
Cayenne S - $66,800 (0 - 60 @ 5.6 sec)

And yes, a bare bones Cayenne (0 -60 @ 7.1 sec) can be had for $49,600, but this is for the manual transmission so you will need to spend $3K more for the Automatic.

ok,so the base Macan is faster than the base Cayenne, great. That has nothing to do with what I said -- since they both start at $50k, the Macan is not any more of a gateway into Porsche ownership than the Cayenne is.

But Porsche has already announced that they will be offering lower cost Macan Models. This is a case of Marketing 101 - - - maximize sales revenue. There is a pent up demand for the Macan so start by initially offering the higher priced S version. Many people who normally wouldn't opt for the higher price of the S model will order it since they have not other option. Next bring out a lower cost version to pick up the people who want the brand, but are not wiling to pay for performance. Porsche used a similar strategy with the Cayman by only offering a S version upon introduction. So if you want something similarly priced to a X3 xDrive35i, you'll need to wait another year.

I don't know how Agent 001 keeps the weight off, considering all the events he attends. How do you do it?

The Macan is a dumb product like the Panamera and like the Panamera it will be a success because people with money who lack taste and common sense will buy one.

Not quite sure how Panamera is "dumb." Car drives brilliantly.

is it me or the car looks boring. I know it will drive like on rails but on those pictures the exterior looks nothing special.
