RENDERED SPECULATION: IF The All-New BMW X6 Looks Like THIS, Will You Give It A Thumbs UP or DOWN?
This year marked the debut of an all-new BMW X5. Though, if you glanced at it, you may not notice it straight away.

That's because it looks similar to the last-gen sport-utility vehicle except it boasts some minor revisions and nip/tuck here and there. The inside received a "once over" and also remained largely similar aside from the new navigation screen and updated styling.

Of course, as the X6 was introduced with the last-gen X5, that means it too should also receive the same updates. Though we've seen plenty of spy photographs of the car camouflaged with swirly wraps and blacked out paint, no one has actually rendered it.

Well, that is until now.

A French-based publication essentially grafted the new X5's facade on an X6's body to present you with the results seen in our cover image.

So, what say you? Thumbs UP or DOWN?

Who cares? I think all 600 people who wanted to buy an X6, did so the first year they sold it. Why doesn't BMW just kill it, as an act of mercy to put it out of misery? Its still a pretty ugly car/SUV/SAV whatever it is.

you mean the 10k or so people who have purchased one.

More like 230,000 people who bought an X6.

Of course, you wouldn't want facts to get in the way opinions... what is it they say.. "Haters gonna hate"

How so? It is a great driving SAV.

Overpriced, unreliable junk.

To top it off, it doesn't even do off-roading. That ain't no real SUV or SAV or whatever you wanna call it.

The real trucks are Lexus LX, Toyota Land Cruiser and Ford F-150.

Although the concept of the SUV coupe does not make much sense, X6 has found its niche, as proven by the fact that soon there there will be not only a second generation X6, but also direct competitors from Audi (Q6) and MB (MLC).

DTMFan - I'm fairly certain that BMW has not sold 230,000 X6's since it was introduced in 2009 (even if you are making the stretch to say "worldwide").

I don't think that BMW has ever, in recent memory, broken out their "light truck" sales by line. In fact, if you go back a month, her in autospies, BMW disclosed that it sold in North America 86,367 "light trucks" for the 12 months, calendar 2012 and 75,990 for the 12 months calendar 2013. If one was to guess the mix..I'd wager the vast majority were X3's and X5's.

I would guess that in the US - BMW moves about 1,500 to 3,000 X6's per year - probably a little less than those Z4 convertibles which are not really a smashing success either.

However, if you have the real X6 worldwide numbers - pls share them!

IN the US BMW sells about 6k to 8k X6 on a yearly basis.

IN 2009 BMW sold 4,797 units & in 2010 sold 6,787 X6's
http://www.autospies.com/news/BMW-December-Sales-Jump-15-7-Ends-Year-Up-12-0-60598/

In 2011 6,140 X6 sold and in 2012 6,749 X6 sold ...

In the US alone since 2008 BMW has sold over 36,000 X6 vehicles .... Thus why Audi & Mercedes are both bringing a model out to compete with the X6

I see someone else has posted up the numbers now, so thanks wac77.

I did clock your username (I had an '88 E30 320i myself :D ) I was a little tired when I posted so maybe I was a little too harsh, I find it frustrating seeing so much of a misconception on the web regarding the X6 popularity. It happens to be one of my favourites from BMW's current line-up so I keep my eye on how well it performs.

I don't think the second gen will look as good personally, mostly because the new X5 isn't that great to start off with. And with the introduction of the X4, some of the lower-end X6 35i sales may be poached from the X6 to the X4.

I'm really interested to see the Mercedes MLC (?) though... I quite like their styling at the moment.

Year Total production X6

2008 26,580
2009 41,667
2010 46,404
2011 40,822
2012 43,689

That's close to 200,000 so once you add the 2013 production, it would be easily the 230,000+ someone estimated above.

Thanks for the info - nothing like real data to set the story straight.
Despite what DTMfan thinks..I'm a huge BMW fan - hence my name mr E30 (i.e. 1984-1992 3 series). Currently have a 328 cab

Maybe the X6 is appealing to those that don't want to drive the family truckster X5, but wants to pretend they are off-road tough.

And you think the X6 is ugly? Wow. You got cajones for sure.

The front is a total mess, hopefully the real thing is better than this rendered speculation.

I would assume the X6 will have a more aerodynamic front end... not just an X5 as a hatchback.. but I guess we will see

don't people learn from history...aztek was a fail. BMW and Mercedes can waste a lot of effort and money duking it out for the ugly class.
