SPIED! 2016 BMW 5-Series Sedan And Wagon. Will The New Design RENDER The Competition Useless?
Dear 001,

You guys are the only Spies out there you know! Look at what I SPIED today as I was delayed by the strike in Frankfurt.

Here is the first artist rendering of the 2016 BMW 5-Series sedan and wagon.

What are your thoughts Agents?

Best regards,

Mephisto

I think they should worry about making sure it is the class benchmark for handling and dynamics, I doubt the styling will be particularly bold or dramatic, but those renders (based mostly on guess work?) look alright.

I guess the jowls weren't large enough on the 4 series, so they needed to be enlarged and highlighted with chrome on this thing.

So much is at stake here. I even think 2016 is a stretch

I highly doubt this new BMW will render the competition useless considering the current BMW has not been able to do that. BMW's look nice but certainly are overrated by some of the authors on this site.

Lets just hope the next 5 series will be able to hold a candle to the current midsize luxury sedan "rendering the competition useless"- The E Class.

And let's not forget, the E Class is due for an all new design before anyone else, as it is the oldest

Is it due first? They just gave it a pretty major facelift/update last year so I wouldn't expect a fully new car for another 3 or 4 years.

I actually think the current 5 Series is the best-looking car in the segment already, arguably. And its sedan sales may be leading the pack (since the E Class sales include the sedan, coupe, and cabriolet).

They also gave the C Class an extensive facelift, but the new model came right on cue.

While the E Class does include Coupe/Cabriolet sales, the 5 Series like the rest of the Bimmer line up, includes Sales To Dealerships in addition to vehicle registration according to R.L. Polk & Co

The current 5 series has a clean front end design but the rear is a bit bland and too closely aligned with the 3 series

It used to be that BMW's werent ever compared to Benz's. They represented 2 separate areas of the premium set: luxury & sport. The E-class has gotten more sporty & the 5-er has gotten more luxurious. I like today's 5- & 7-er exterior designs - more upright, stately. I'm sure the wagon will carry that basic design forward.

Looks like BMW decided to make the M Sport appearance modifications standard so journalists and bloggers won't criticize them for selling "bland" cars.

Bring back the "Touring" model, both in normal and M trim, so Audi has to sell the Avant in the U.S. again.

The e-class sells so well because it looks good not because is drives special. The incentives are also off the hook....

I am 99% sure that worldwide sales of 5-series sedans are higher than sales of E-class sedans.

Please, we know here at Autospies that only Hyundai/KIA disrupt the auto industry. Everybody else (including Bentley) is a has ran.

I want the wagon in the exact color above (with gunmetal wheels). It's beautiful. The ultimate Yuppie car!

They added two chrome pig nostrils on the bumper and called it a redesign...

I just hope they bring back the fun. The current styling is boring, but I can live with it--IF it's an engaging driver. Otherwise, I think Audi is going to continue to eat their lunch.
