SPIED: BMW's All-New X4 M Sport Nearly Revealed — Spotted NOT Wearing Much Camo
Since we initially saw the BMW X4 Concept make its debut, we've been particularly interested in this vehicle. That's because there hasn't really been a proper challenger to the Range Rover Evoque aside from the all-new Porsche Macan. And given how the Macan's price is likely to rise significantly when you add options — in typical Porsche fashion — we don't think it'll be a viable option for most.

Now the BMW X4, that's going to line up a bit more appropriately. That's because BMW's financing and leasing programs are super aggressive.

Although we've seen the red X4 M Sport revealed a long time ago via a wide shot when the vehicle was being shot for a promotion — brochure or television spot — now we're seeing these all-new shots of the vehicle up close and personal for the first tie. Obviously this changes the level of detail significantly.

Sources allege a 2014 New York Auto Show debut. Seems to make sense as the Tri-State area makes up a large chunk of the BMW consumer population.

Bimmer has caught a serious case of product overlap

Wow - that's just plain ugly.....the rear black plastic is horrible....it looks like it is going to tip over -- and that's the MSport version -- the "normal" versions are going to be even worse....

If it's anything like the LCI X3 with M-sport kit it will look ghastly in my opinion! Infact all the X's do with M-sport bits, so I doubt the X4 will be any different.

Interested to see it unveiled though... it'll probably look better to me in x-line trim.

From what they've shown us so far, the production version is disappointing compared to the concept. If the idea was to make a super sporty small SUV, see "Porsche Macan". I hope it's better looking in the flesh.

They need to put the camo back on, might make it look more exciting.

Wow! BMW has really lost its way! First, the product overlap is reaching alarming numbers and second the designs are getting uglier by the day!

This is a pointless car that will further cannibalize sales of BMW's other models and it looks like hell.

It almost seems as if BMW is intentionally trying to destroy its profitability by creating models that will sell very poorly (due to either product overlap and/or ugly designs) and increase its production costs significantly.

If BMW wants to maintain its title of "World's Best Selling Premium Brand" it better figure out a way to correct these problems. Unfortunately, it's already too late and the writing is on the wall as Audi is closing in rapidly.

BMW should realize it has a problem when fans on its pro-BMW message boards almost unanimously hate its new models. If that isn't a wake up call, I don't know what is.

Probably when the sales nosedive. But since internet forum keyboard warriors make up a small percentage of the real market I doubt they're worried - so until they do nosedive, then I guess they know a lot more than you about what people want to buy.

Your pro Audi bias is getting really old.

Nuttie - Which New models? The M4 & 4-series coupe has had great reviews, The 2-series is well liked, the 6-series Gran Coupe is said to be one of the best looking, the 3-series sedan is still the best selling and most demand mid-sized luxury car & the New X5 has been well received ...

Bigger wheels, less of a fender gap and a wider stance would make all the difference. I used to have an Imola Red X5 4.8is which would be considered an M version of an X5 back then.. Its stance was mean and low. This could look better..

Hey DTMFan, once sales nosedive, BMW can't say no one warned it what was coming.

BMWm4, it has been tough for many to see the point of the 4-series Gran Coupe along with this X4. There is not enough differentiation to justify the almost infinitely small niches that are being created.

Granted not every new design has been ugly (6-Series Gran Coupe looks quite nice actually) but the X4 is pretty awful and let's not start discussion of the 2-series Active Tourer.

This is coming from the Ultimate Driving Machine....

Audi is creating the same niches with their cars. A3, A4, A7, A6, A8, Q3, Q4, Q5, Q7 , some A5 gran coupe , A5 coupe, Q1 and some mini competitor as the A1.

Yes, BMWm4, Audi is creating similar niche cars but the biggest difference is Audi's designs are not revolting and Audi has less overlap than BMW. Audi's designs might currently be boring to some (that will soon be totally revamped) but few would call them "horrible" and "ugly".

Audi does not offer an A5 Sportback in the U.S. whereas BMW does offer the 4-series Gran Coupe. Audi also does not offer an A4 wagon in the U.S. but BMW does offer the 3-series wagon.

When you create ugly cars and create the tiniest niches possible, which no one asked for, your sales and profitability will suffer. BMW will soon find out the consequences of its overdone model proliferation strategy and ugly designs as its sale fail to keep up with Audi's. Look for Mercedes-Benz to close the gap too.

Firstly, when it comes to finding the styling revolting, you're entitled to your opinions. But surely even you must understand that your opinions don't dictate how the markets works or the manufacturers respond.. so I'm going to disregard your opinions on the aesthetics of the cars.

When it comes to product overlap, it's easier to criticise BMW. However, because of either your bias or narrow minded approach (and American point of view?) you will always look for the negative to attack BMW. What you overlook is these days people want choice, they want something a little different, they want something to suit all their tastes, however illogical they may appear to other people, they may want something a little more exclusive. You also seem to assume that these models are introduced at great cost, but I doubt you can show me the cost of development and of manufacturing for the X3 vs. the X4 (for instance).

Infact, I notice you hang your hat on profitability a lot, and I'm guessing that's because you know VW can shuffle money around as much as it likes to make the books look good, which is fine - I won't deny that Audi, thanks to VW, can probably develop new products more cost effectively - or at least make it seem that way on paper. No doubt being able to share costs across VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda is a financial benefit.

The sales race, which you (and unfortunately the manufacturers) seem to be so worried about is never, and was never supposed to be driven by niche products. Both BMW, Mercedes and Audi's increased sales over the last decade have come from expanding new markets and from introducing new mainstream models. If Audi hadn't released a Q7 to counter the X5, then a Q5 to counter the X3, and then a Q3 to counter the X1 do you think they'd have kept pace with BMW and Mercedes?

You are obviously passionate about Audi, that's fine - there are things I like/respect/dislike/hate about all three of these German marques, it's just a shame you can't enjoy the Audi brand without biased propaganda dribbling from your mouth at the same time. As it happens, the inability to promote the Audi brand, without also berating the opposition, is one of the things I do NOT respect about Audi themselves (that and Catalunya '07 :( :( )

Bmw have being shoving the same crap down consumers throats.
First they lost their magical handling abilities then they lost their lead in the US luxury market and now they completely forgot how to design cars. Even the Bengal ass back in the days is better than the recent designs. (Besides the 6 series)
