SPIED: Mystery BMW SUV Caught In SoCal By Spies — What Could It Be?
If there's one thing I love, it's when Spies from all over the globe send in images they snapped while on the road. As usual, our man Fred Khaz came through with some all-new photos that are leaving me, frankly, a bit puzzled.

Snapped by Khaz's friend Lee, he wrote to us that it looked as though it could be a BMW X2  or some sort of 2-Series variant.

Now if you ask me, I think it's actually not that at all. Just look at the scale and how it appears in relation to other vehicles. Actually, I think it may be some sort of all-new BMW X5 variant. The details and proportions scream X5 and it seems that BMW has been working on plug-ins as of late. Could it be a plug-in X5? It's possible.

But it's also just as likely BMW is just doing extra durability testing of the already launched vehicle.

It was spotted on the Pacific Coast Highway in what Khaz describes as "HB." I am guessing this would be Huntington Beach.

What say you, Spies? Place your bets!

Yep, and BMW will have its hands dull as Large or Full size has never really fit BMW they way it does Benz.

Vehicles like the 3/4/5 series and X3/X5 entry-midsize are their strength.

I believe an X7 concept is due before the end of the year. Perhaps a chassis mule for that.

I doubt it's the eDrive X5 as thats already been seen testing with very little camo.

It doesn't looking any bigger than the new X5 if you look at the windows you can see that. BMW does need a large size SUV if they are really going to keep introducing all these new models. I'm not talkin just a LWB X5.. The rear portion isn't near tall or wide enough for a decent 3rd row seat

Looks like last year's GMC Acadia.

What could it be? My guess is another over-priced and underperforming crossover from BMW.

underperforming? compared to what? the 448 horsepower / 485 lbs of torque X5 is underperforming to what other SUV on the market & the fact it gets 22 mpg on the highway. Or you meant the New Diesel X5 at 255 hp / 413 pbs of torque that gets 24 city and 31 highway ... or did you mean the 300 horsepower X3 3.5i that is 0 to 60 in under 5.5 seconds and gets 19 city / 26 highway ....

you were comparing that to the Merceds GLK350 that gets about 21 mpg, or the 381 horsepower ML550 that gets 19 mpg, or the Range Rover Sport that gets 18 mpg with its 400+ Hp supercharge and is nowhere near the same performance ...

I am pretty sure it is the X7.

Doubt it's a plug-in with those dual exhausts. Looks large. May well be an X7.

Building X7's is not what BMW WANTS to do. They have to. A forced market march to provide BMW customers an alternative to GL550 / LX470 etc. Mostly gone are the days where car companies built cars they WANT to build. They build what the markets dictate. Hence the whole SUV bandwagon thing. Porsche's SUV was scoffed at in past, but it yields em lotsa Euros. And now cheap Benzes- ala CLA's. And expensive Kia's...my Lord !

Whatever it might be, it's rolling on X5 diesel wheels. That could indicate nothing more than a parts bin selection or that it needs the extra weight strength/size.
