GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: New Alfa Romeo Spider To Be Built In Italy As An Abarth Model

The proposed Alfa Romeo Spider model that was to spawn from the next generation Mazda MX-5 could now become an Abarth model instead.

With all future Alfas set to be "built in Italy with Italian-produced powertrains", the Japanese-built MX-5 would no longer appear to fit in the plan.

"The Spider is potentially part of the Alfa plan as it is part of another [Fiat Chrysler] brand," Fiat Chrysler Automobiles boss Sergio Marchionne said at the Geneva motor show.

How many times is Marchionne going to to yet another all new product plan? Selling the Alfa Miata as an Abarth is moronic. Selling it as a Fiat Spider with an Abarth variant might make sense, but Marchionne is a bumbling idiot of a leader.
