Regarding Pre-Crash, even the name is a rip-off of MB's Pre-Safe. Worse, I once read a Lexus advertisement that basically claimed "that Lexus was the first to invent this". Misleading.

Where is the crash into a wall test?

Do you know how long it takes to develop this technology? It's sure not a one night invention. Each company had it on their drawing blocks years ago, it just so happened MB came to the market with their product first. I can understand if the next generation Lexus came out with this technology, then they would be copying.

As soon as Mercedes reliability matches that of Lexus, please be sure to say that they copied that. Guess we will have to wait a while on that though.

Also, should future safety devices not be used by a company simply because another company developed it first? Would it make some of you feel better to be driving around in a car without ABS, seatbelts, airbags, stability management, etc. just so you know your car didn't copy anyone?

My issue with Lexus here is that they "said that they INVENTED PRE-CRASH" in one of their advertisements. That's right, they claimed to have invented it. They didn't Mercedes did in late 1996 / early 1997 as far as I recall. Lexus is "LYING" when they claim they invented Pre-Crash. Heck, even the name is shamelessly ripped from MB.

Actually I think MB's system "Pre-Safe" was introduced in concept form in 2001. So it could be that Lexus copied it. But on the other land let me get this straight...

Its actually toyota who first came up with a production version of the auto driving, Distronic-cruise control and also Heads-up night vision.

Maybe these ideas were concived by germans or anmericans, but toyota were the first to make then realistically.

After working with the Japs a lot, i am used to this saying: "Its fine to copy some one else, as long as you do that job better then him"

Check out the car called Toyota Progress: It featured something like Distronic.

Also check: Skyhook TEMS; a automatic suspension system like the one featured in new Mercs; toyota had this about 15 years ago. Guess Mercs coppied Toyota
