GM Not Interested In Buying Back Any Recalled Cars But Will Offer Owners $500 To Buy Another GM Product

General Motors Co. has told dealers it won’t repurchase any of the 1.37 million vehicles recalled in the U.S. linked to a faulty ignition switch, but will offer owners of those vehicles $500 off the purchase or lease of a new GM vehicle.

The Detroit automaker will offer owners the rebate off a new car — and will pay for loaner or rental cars and to tow cars to the dealership if owners feel worried about their safety.

So what? Is GM the only company to ever have a recall? Does any dolt actually believe that a recalled vehicle is just cause for the manufacturer to buy it back? The manufacturer is obligated to fix the problem, not replace the vehicle.

Exxon Vandez. Even after that disaster, people are still buying their product. So yeah, many people will continue to buy GM vehicles. But seeing GM's history of massive losses, bankruptcy, and uninspiring products, it's hard for me to imagine GM becoming the mark of quality, style, or much else that's desirable. But hey, they do employ a lot of people.
