I think this will work if you have a lot of space infront and behind the car. Seeing how tight the parking spaces are in Europe, not sure it will do fine.

EL34, I have many a guy friends that live in the south where parking lots are abundant and when they visit me up north they scream like a lil kid that they can't park up here in a parallel spot....they never had to do it in the south, so much space and land, so I end up getting out and parking their rental for them. So to say it is a woman's feature is just idiotic.

I say... Lexus is not a woman's type of car - Audi is, especially the TT (looks like a go-cart). Lexus appeals more to the smug real estate agent types.

I would be embarresed to use this feature.

I can drive and I can park. I doubt the system works that much better than someone WHO HAS ACTUALLY LEARNED HOW TO USE THEIR CAR.

In the state of TN you do not have to parallel park in the driver's test. Trust me I was shocked...I live in NYC and you would not survive if you could not parallel park.

Funny thing- nobody mentions how well this service will be for drivers frequenting bars and for the other cars parked around this type of driver!

You know the more I think about this self parking aid the more I believe it's a good devide for the handicap, like the people that may have trouble turning their head to park, but have no problem pulling into spaces or backing out.

Still this doesn't change the fact that Lexus make cars manily for women.

Yet more 'dumbing down' of driving - but it sure looks cool on the video.

The reason the Lexus LS460 needs self-parking is because the car is too damn big to park.

Can't imagine parking the stretch Lexus!

This feature isn't girly, really, but it is indeed helpful. The E280 CDI I drove in Europe had Parktronic and I found it most helpful. It didn't give visual cues but sounded an alarm that told me that I had at least a foot or two of space left in which ever corner to maneuver. These parking systems are helpful - even for men.

BTW this feature is not a Lexus first....Maybe for the US but BMW had this feature already when it introduced the new 3 series back in March.... Just to let you know huu76 Lexus did not "do it first" Here is a link to that video....

From an article listed on this site about the Self Parking: "First of all, any technology that further enables the decline in minimum driving competence is untimely, at best. Second, the system requires that the parallel spot be 6.5 feet longer than the car (23 feet for the standard-wheelbase LS 460). I don't need a computer and a rearview camera to dock in such a huge space. A white cane and a Labrador service dog would do just fine. Also, the car takes forever to achieve this bit of parking prestidigitation. I'd be on my second latte by the time the LS finally put out its mooring lines."

Also, here is a video of the BMW self-park system. This came out in February 2006. The technology is very similar, but the BMW appears to work just a little bit better and in a tighter space. We will have to see how all this works in the real world.
