VIDEO: So, What's Video Prove? Auto Journalists Are Smug Clowns OR That Porsche's Are, In Fact, Unbreakable?
In one of the buff books latest irrelevant stunts to remain in the spotlight, since they don't have an imagination, it conducts a downright brutal test of the all-new 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S.

Of its clutches and gearbox, that is.

To prove the point that the 911 Turbo S is "unbreakable," essentially they proceed to launch the car 50 times, only to correct themselves later that it was actually 61 and they were sloppy at their job. Well, that's something to be proud of.

Anyhow, I am not going to waste anymore of my time on this. Onto the video, ladies and gents...

On a SoCal runway used by General Patton to train soldiers for WWII, we line up the Turbo for the first of 50 back-to-back launches. Porsche's PR man called this test "abusive." We think it's a fitting tribute to the 911's 50th anniversary. The Turbo, however, does not do 50 launches. It does 61, because we get woozy from acceleration and lose count.

The point of this video is to remind us of one thing, that the European auto brands are the "gods" of the automobile world, especially highly well-established ones like Porsche.

I remember watching some British video review on Nissan GT-R before, and I believe the guy said "Well, the company that used to be called Datsun made a car like this. Hmm, pretty good". I was wondering why "Datsun" had to be brought up on that video, and I wondered if he even knows "anything" about the history of Datsun, because he seemed to be mocking GT-R in the end, and sounded quite ignorant in the entire review, too.

And not to mention there are way too many people out there who believe GT-R is a toy for boys, and Porsche is the real brand for the adults and enthusiasts.

I remember one time asking a question to the Porsche owners on some Porsche fan website, and I asked, "So, which one is better? GT-R, or 911?" And one of them responded by saying, "Leave 911 alone, you can not compare a toy to a real automobile like 911".

So, basically this video is kind of like that, showing us the embodiment of the very stereotype that exists in the automobile world, that the European brands (Especially German) are the "gods", and no one else can ever achieve what they can achieve.

This is the very reason why Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac and Lincoln are always ridiculed, and the brands like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Bugatti, etc are considered as "gods". I would not be surprised a bit if there are people who "actually" worship those European brands like real gods.

So, to answer the question on the title, I guess it's both? I am not too sure on the launch control stuff, but if that is something so surprising, then I guess it is.

And I believe this launch control thing is the response to Nissan GT-R's warranty thing? But I thought this case was already solved years ago.

It's funny how the Japanese auto companies never get a chance on anything, when practically no one "dares" to talk about the bad reliability of the European automobiles. For example, Toyota's gas pedal issue got Toyota so hard, Europe worshippers still talk about this 3 year old story, and they always bring up the GT-R's warranty thing, when both cases are already settled a long time ago. I mean, why?

I am also a JDM enthusiast buddy because I like GOOD cars regardless of where they come from, just like my women. However, it is a fact that the GTR tranny would in no way survive the abuse that this Porsche took in its stride. Hell, the GTR locks up the tranny - launch control system.

I actually get what you mean there. Which is why I said, hmm, if GT-R really can not handle that much of abuse, and this Porsche can, then I'd say that's really something.

I'm waiting for the next gen GT-R, and see how this one will perform. It'd be interesting to see the launch control stuff in there.

This coming from someone who is waiting to trade in either his BMW or Merc for the Q50 Eau Rouge if it comes with the GTR engine but hopefully not that terrible tranny. No worries, I also have a Toyota and I trust it the most out of all my cars :)

Just a silly video trying to prove that the latest PDK transmission is bullet proof - - - which it has been proven to be.

If you are in to drag racing or 0-60 times using launch control, the latest Porsche's are a solid choice. Plenty has already been written about the GTR gearbox, and while BMW's are turning in good 0-60 times, their use of launch control just isn't viable. Motor Trend quote: "And the procedure to place the M5 into launch control is absolutely the most convoluted process our team has ever encountered. It's supposed to work like this: First, you need to place the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission in manual mode. Then, you hit the little button below the shifter joystick twice to put the transmission into the fastest shift mode. Next, you hold the traction control button down for about 10 seconds to turn all the nannies off. Then you touch the brake pedal lightly with your left foot and with your right hand push the stick forward. Next, release the brake. Finally, you simultaneously jam the throttle to the floor (making sure to really jam it, as the BMW, like the Porsche, has a stupid detent about 90 percent of the way down that you have to kick through), and release the stick. Our quarter-mile specialist Scott Mortara told me that, out of 15 attempts, he got the M5's launch control to work twice."
