SHOULD THEY? Rumors Continue To Swirl That Mercedes-Benz May Buy Aston Martin

Mercedes chief Dieter Zetsche did not rule out the possibility that his company, which already owns five per cent of Aston, might acquire the UK firm, although he did what he could to dampen the speculation that has been growing fast.

Aston has been short of powerful industry friends since it was sold by Ford several years ago - and the management knows it.

It makes sense, Mercedes knows how to move high performance/high end vehicles hence AMG's Record breaking year

Aston Martin as a client, isn't doing much for Mercedes as Aston only manages to move around 3-5K a year.

Nissan on the other hand is a cash cow of a client of Mercedes platforms/small engines as they are high volume and are doing Benz a whole lot of good

Pull the trigger Merc.

BMW should buy them!

Not only would Aston Martin make a perfect dealership pairing/partner with Rolls Royce, but BMW would gain additional scale for carbon fiber production and fusing together ProDrive with M Motorsport.

McLaren would also make a great candidate to partner/buy Aston Martin.

They pretty much own Aston Martin given Aston Martin's stupid decision to use Mercedes drivetrain components. That creates dependency. Mercedes is not a good partner...just ask Chrysler. Too bad BMW didn't go for it or Ford even.

Matt -
Ford used to own Aston Martin. The vaunted AM V-12 engine started life as two Ford Mondeo v6 engines joined together.

Ford puked it out when AM proved not to be financially viable in the context of Ford's other operations (Ford used to own Volvo too).
