Do You Believe Us Now?- BMW Confirms X7 Will Be Built In Spartanburg South Carolina

The long-rumored BMW X7 will be built at the company’s plant in Spartanburg, S.C., The Wall Street Journal reported today.

BMW will make the announcement on March 28, the newspaper reported, and will spend several hundred million dollars to expand the plant to build the seven-seat X7.

BMW had been rumored to be considering a three-bench vehicle to fill a gap in its crossover lineup.

BMW needs to seriously re-think the front-end design of its cars/SUV's/SAV's. The "flared-grill" opening that looks OK on the 3-series, DOES NOT scale up to be an attractive design feature of the X5's.

Its really in the same league as the Ford Edsel was 50 yrs ago...like an anteater or a blood-sucking eel or any number of non-attractive animals.

I hate to say it, but bring back Chris Bangle. The BMW designs just get worse and worse with every iteration.

I shudder to think what the new 7-series is going to look like (due out next year).

Completely agree, not all design cues should be carried from low end to high end

it's like a full grown adult trying to wear teenage clothes...just awkward

I am not hate to say bring back Chris Bangle I like those designs , but now I notice BMW is stuck in a design crisis, they just try to elaborate and play over the same thing far from create new design. Nos Mercedes is ahead in design in and out so will see in the future what happens. they also have a great challenge with the new 7 series. So will see how they respond to the new S class ,this movement is going to show how BMW is ready to fight against Mercedes and the competition.

This possible X7 is for sure test mule for Rolls Royce because Bentley is already working in theirs luxury SUV ,so now BMW up scale their SUV line and they also have a tested mule and platform to doing a future Roll Royce SUV or whatever they want to make to answer to Bentley.

Hmm, I'd wait for the BMW V15, or the 15-passenger full-size van.

The world of commercial vehicles is wide open for the Bavarians to explore. :)

nah, Benz has vans covered with their Sprinter lineup. I would say BMW could expand to make semi's, but Benz already makes those too.

I agree with the initial comment here. The front of the BMW doesn't align well with the overall design. When it comes to cars, BMW's niche has been to offer a lean/refined look. However, SUVs are supposed to be bigger and bulkier, and the front frankly looks out of place.

The need for an X7 is obvious, given the success of the GL and other large luxury SUVs (Escalade, Q7, etc.), whether we like it or not.

GL is just a big crossover with no off-road capability. And most likely this is the same, considering the fact that BMW never was good at making AWD cars, let alone "off-road". BMW has no heritage in the off-road history.

But Toyota/Lexus has Toyota Land Cruiser and Lexus LX, which are without a doubt, the best off-road SUVs in the entire world. They are the "real" men's SUVs.

I can already see a lot of soccer moms buying GL and X7.

In the automobile world, heritage is everything.

And it's pretty laughable how BMW is even "trying" to challenge Lexus LX and Toyota Land Cruiser, which have the decades of history.

God no! Do not bring back Chris Bangle! What an arrogant, aloof turd he was. He believes that because his designs sold that they were embraced.

Not

Why even bother posting a hideous picture like that.. other than the fact to get people hyped up.. wait I guess that is why.

My Lord JDMUSMuscle, there is no Lexus is this world that is a real "men's" SUV or car to boot. The only person I can think of that drives even the most expensive Lexus "the LFA" is Paris Hilton. What are you smoking? No woman pictures her dream guy stepping out of a Lexus. Lexus's are for women and AARP liberals. Yes, Toyota sells large amounts of those ugly safari trucks to 3rd world contries, but the true off road SUV title clearly belongs to Land Rover.

If you think the most unreliable junk in the world can be called the true off road SUV....then I guess I have nothing more to say. What's the point of having all the capabilities, if the car breaks down anytime, anywhere?

And that's what you think. Toyota Land Cruiser is the most badass vehicle in the segment, and unfortunately, you don't know the fact that many of drivers of X5 and ML/GL/G are females.

And yes, also many of them are liberals. Rich liberal Americans practically have no respect to this country and Japan, so mainly they only worship European brands. There you have it. Sorry for you, friend.

Do they even sell Land Cruisers anymore? Or are they just all mixed in with the few lexus GX's you see here there filled with groceries. The Toyota Land Cruiser hasn't been relevent since 1995. And there are just as many Land Rover Defenders in use as those 3rd world toyotas you see carting around militants every night on the news. No toyota or Lexus has the mix of offroad capability and luxury pedigree and as Range Rover. Nor did I ever state that any of the German SUVs you mentioned are "real men's" SUVs. They are all just as much grocery getters as your beloved Lexus and Toyota SUVs, but to state that they are real men vehicles is a joke. Picture that. A bunch of contruction workers or contractors showing up to the site in a RX350. And for someone who's so patriotic you should be waving a Japanese flag as your profile pic rather than the stars and stripes.
