CAR WARS! 2015 Corvette vs. USED 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S? WHICH Would YOU Buy?

CAR WARS! 2015 Corvette vs. USED 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S? WHICH Would YOU Buy?
I don't think there is ever a time where I'm not scheming some kind of car purchase or car sale in my head.

It's a disease I think many of our readers share as well.

Over the past few weeks I've been thinking about picking up a used 2009-11 Porsche 911 Carrera S, 4S or Targa 4s.

And as I was checking prices on eBay Motors and Craigslist (two of my favorites) I realized I could probably buy a brand new 2015 Corvette Stingray.

So I thought I'd throw down the question to you...Would you go for a low mileage 2009-11 Porsche 911 or the Corvette?

What would you do if you were me?

Let me add in one wildcard...The Corvette salespeople SWEAR only people 6'3" tall or shorter will fit in the new Vette.

I sat in it (I'm 6'5") and it was SUPER tight.

00R is 6'8" and he told me he fits fine and I'm calling him out saying ONLY if the roof is off. Beer bets are on it.

Let us know if you've sat in the new Vette and let us know your size and how you fit.

And let 00R know if you believe him or not... :)

p.s. I know the cover photo shows a 991 Porsche...it was just for placement.

Maybe I can help your dillema. I currently own a 3012 Audi R8 V10, 2014 Corvette Stingray 2LT Z51, Porsche Cayman, and Porsche Panamera. First off, you can't really go wrong with either. I have never owned a 911, but have driven several. I have owned 5 Corvettes through the years. Here's why I think the Stingray is your best choice; The first thing would be obvious, the Stingray is a NEW car vs a USED car. That aside the Stingray has a lot going for it. I love mine to death. Theother advantages are that it is faster(on paper, depends on driver) it handles better(1.05 g on skidpad) it sounds better(of course) the interior is very much on par(Chevy used Porsche's interior suppliers) the driving modes are fun(try track mode (:) and if you're an attention seeker(not really my thing, so this is a drawback) this car gets as much attention if not more than my R8, no kidding. People always stopping and taking pictures. And come on, Porsches haven't changed much. This is the most changed Vette in History and arguably the best looking. Get the Stingray, you WON'T regret it. But if you get the Porsche, it's still a great car. Just not as great. :)

3012 Audi R8 V10. They still use V10 even in the year 3012?

Stingray.

Why?

Because it's new. And it's American.

Stingray vs Super Beetle?

Stingray!

Why?

Because it's new. And it's American.

And it's much more reliable.

And it's much cheaper to maintain.

And the handling is better because the engine is in the right place.

If you are afraid that you can't handle a 911, you should opt for a new Cayman or Boxster S. Being mid-engine, they handle better than both the 911 and Corvette. Mid-engine is the proper place for a sports car, it's just a more expensive proposition. Corette continues to toy with the idea - - - and I hope they make the plunge with the next generation. The mid-engined Corvette based Daytona Prototypes have been awesome.

Cayman and Boxster are meant to be the cars for those who can't afford 911.

And 911 has the engine on the wrong place.

Porsche, sucks.

In fact, Porsche does not have the engineering prowess to compete with Chevrolet.

I have an '06 911 C4 and hope to keep it forever. It's a great car with solid quality and great sounds. I cross shopped the C6 when I bought the Porsche. At the time they weren't comparable and I went with the Porsche. Now if I could convince my wife to let me get another car (I have 3 now) then I would add a Corvette to my fleet! The Corvette is great looking, a high performer and a fantastic value. The Porsche will always be great looking (IMHO) and a high performer but it would be hard to call it a fantastic value.

No need to knock either car, they are both fantastic.

@allenr82012. How tall are you and how do you fit in new Vette?

By the way, you should fit just fine. I'm 6'2 and I know there's space for someone taller than me.

And very comfortable on long trips. I took it through 3 states in one day and it wasn't bad at all.

911 for me. I like what I like. I've never looked at cars as a value proposition. Cars...especially sports cars are emotional decisions. I'm a 911 guy, the Vette is a value proposition to me but it doesn't tug at my heart strings.

Only girls drive that car.

The real men drive STI, EVO, 370Z, GT-R, Corvette or Viper.

also keep in mind routine and non-routine maintenance costs - Porsche can't compete in that area. Stingray has supercar speed, better looks and super low maintenance costs and parts are cheap.

AS long as you FIT it the vette, I say go for it!
