Hyundai Says It Will Sell Over A Quarter Million Restyled Sonatas In 2014 - Do You Agree?

South Korean automaker Hyundai plans to sell 228,000 units of the new Sonata sedan by the end of this year.

Hyundai said that it is confident the new Sonata will be able to sell 228,000 units globally this year and help the automaker reverse a profit fall and regain market share. The South Korean car maker aims at selling 165,000 redesigned Sonata sedans overseas and 63,000 locally in 2014 and for the next year the automaker has a selling target of 338,000 vehicles (89,000 locally and 249,000 overseas).

Hyundai’s redesigned Sonata, recently launched in South Korea, is the first makeover of this model in almost five years. The vehicle will be introduced in the US market next month at the New York auto show and it will be immediately go on sale after the event.

Way to aim low. The Camry sells over 400K a year just in the US. The Korean government is going to have to cover all the subsidies and -5% financing Hyundai is going to be offering if they wan tot lure cheap white people in N.America and Europe away from their good quality cars. Then they have to factor in the penalties when Hyundai is caught lying about mileage/hp claims for a 3rd time.

They are being a bit optimistic about domestic sales but then the Koreans don't really have a choice in their protected car market.

Hyundai seems to have become accustomed to making low projections, then releasing a press release stating they exceeded sales forecast.

These sales goals just make no sense. They sold 225k Sonatas in the US alone in 2012 (couldn't find 2013 data for some reason), yet they make a global projection of 228k. Granted, it's going on sales after Q1, but it's still a pretty low projection.

Interior was taking from BMW 3 some details like the center console and also the wanna be wood panels is from BMW. Headlights is from BMW a but at Korean version , exterior lateral profile is from Audi A4 and some angles from posterior section and tails lights, even using a fire designer from Audi they still having lack of brain to make theirs own design. This is really embarrassing . Still looks like a tacky thing on the street that fight desperately using angles and design from others brands to attract attention.

This is an elegant car with a very nice interior. Here in Beirut (where we are posted until October) the best selling cars are by Kia and Hyundai, and this will have an enormous success, I would guess way beyond their prediction. This car takes the best features from European prestige cars and puts them together well in a very attractive package to be snapped up eagerly by people who have no Western brand loyalty yet, or for whom Kia and Hyundai cars have accompanied them for some time already. No problem, these guys are fully on the right track with this really nice car.

Well, you guys don't know any better so we can't blame you. You probably think Hyundai invented the car too.

Yes...they will sell this many. Why should anyone be surprised at that? It is the right size, right price, does everything well...smart manufacturers who want to move inventory know the right formula. Don't fault them for that.

I will admit that Hyundai has made huge gains over the past decade in becoming a competitor in the midsized sedan segment, but it still has a long way too go in catching up with the likes of Honda and Toyota. I personally will never buy a Hyundai or a Kia so long as Honda and Toyotas continue to put out compentent automobiles. And if Honda and Toyota start to build crap, I will go American or German. But with the average new car costing more and more each year there are so many people out there that can't justify spending upwards of 28K for the more reputable brands. Hyundai and Kia will continue to bottom feed to catch those who don't want to spend Accord or Camry money.

It does NOT have a long way to go to catch up with Toyota/Honda. They are pretty much dead even.
