Audi RS4 vs. Mercedes CLK 63 AMG Comparison Test

Here is very nice comparison test between the Audi RS4 and Mercedes CLK 63 AMG. Two very powerful and sporty convertibles that have left the Autobild testers with a very hard decision to make. Since both have their strengths and few weaknesses, they (testers) could not announce a winner and so decided on a tie. The CLK delivers a lot of torque and a precise automatic gearbox that offers a very comfortable ride and seats comfortably four people. Even though, the Audi is lacking some of the performance, it is still a very sporty car that longs for curves and fast acceleration; the RS4 is also more dynamic than the CLK.

The CLK63 is certainly fast in a straight-line but when it comes down to the handling and dynamic driving characteristics, the Audi RS4 is the clear winner.

Audi RS is much more prestigious than the diluted AMG line of cars now available on the R-class.

I wouldn't say the RS is more prestigious. It's just Merc's slapping too many AMG's into their models. Without a doubt the RS4 handling would be better than the CLK63. It would be expected eitherway. CLK63 is more of a Sport Grand Tourer. Whereas the RS4 is bred to be a true sports sedan.

IMO, it's targeting different consumers. The people who would buy the CLK63 probably cares more about having the top of the line CLK than having to worry about it's handling and what not. Beautiful car with a beautiful grunt and style but i'm basing my opinion on what I see.

As for the RS4, people who buy these cars definately know what's made for. Handling, power, and a dynamic driving machine. Its consumers would be car enthusiasts that know their cars.

AMG's and the M's are more known to the public because of it's history. RS is relatively new but I say give RS some years under it's belt, it will be a driving force in the auto industry. It already is but let see how far it will grow.

I'm a Mercedes fan by the way, a lot more than I am an Audi or BMW fan. However I give credit where credit is due. The RS4 is awesome.

The handling of AMG's is often "underrated". It wasn't too long ago that the CLK was the best-handling AMG out there. It was lighter than the SL55 AMG and the engine "wasn't too torquey" which made the CLK55 AMG pretty balanced. Now that the SLK has come along, it has the title of best-handling AMG.

Anyone see the Top Gear episode where they tested the CLS55 AMG? That thing performed pretty well on the track. I was quite impressed.

BMW530i: Agreed. I saw it and my god it was brilliant. I was more surprised and very impressed. A big saloon/4-door coupe, like that handling that well means great balance.

The SLK is a little rocket as well.

Honestly, for the average driver, unless you're a carnut, you won't notice those handling differences. Only time you'll truly notice it is if you're on a track ripping the cars around. For a daily commute, the driver/owner, won't really care..

Im a MB enthusiast, but the fact is Im not paying 90,000+ for a CLK convertible, especially when the handling pales in comparison to a RS4.

Lets put it in perspective too: For 90,000 dollars do you really want a 6.3L convertible CLK convertible when you could have, a used Bentley Continental GT with around 30k.
