SPIED: Mercedes-Benz Preps Its M-Class For The Cameras, What Would YOU Change?
It's about time.

It's about time Mercedes-Benz started paying attention to its luxury sport-utility vehicle, the M-Class. That's because while it's been busy having blockbuster debuts for the all-new GLA-Class and working on the upcoming GLK-Class, the M has been sitting in the corner languishing.

Perhaps I am exaggerating a little bit, but hear me out. If you've taken a seat in the current-generation M-Class and then sat in a Jeep Grand Cherokee, what's really keeping you from saving a few bucks and walking away with the Jeep?

For Agent 001 and I, the decision is simple: get the Jeep.

Maybe, just maybe, Mercedes has realized its M-Class is in need of a change and that's what we're seeing here for the first time. We can only hope as the competitive set is only getting better and more interesting.

The M needs a better, more expressive front-end. They should have put the SL's headlights and bolder grille on this SUV and the current SUV's lights and more modest grille on the SL. I don't think they need to change anything in the interior which I think is the best in the segment. Yes, much better than the Jeep's. BTW, I drove a Jeep GC for two weeks in NY not long ago. Not even 13k miles on it and rattles galore, top to bottom, front to back and it was a fairly spartan interior. And the ride and drive was honestly a bit scary. The only Jeep GC I'd consider is the SRT8 but only if someone were forcing me to spend my $70k on an SUV.

I guess we had different experiences.

Drove not one, but two new GCs and found them to be excellent.

The MLC (M Class Coupe) and refreshed M Class should put some pep back in the ML's step.

However, from a sales standpoint, the ML hasn't missed a beat and has been holding its own against the all new X5

The current generation of the M Class has a proportion problem. It just appears too short and squat. The worst part is the tail-lamp treatment - too wide and too high...looks like a bad copy of a Lincoln Navigator. If they fix the taillights it will be 100% better.

Anything decent about the Jeep GC is attributable to Mercedes.
