Mercedes-Benz Previews The MLC SUV - Worthy Competition To The BMW X6?

Mercedes-Benz has previewed its upcoming MLC SUV with a new Concept Coupé SUV for the Beijing motor show.

The Concept Coupé SUV was revealed today by Daimler chief Dieter Zetsche at the company’s annual shareholders meeting.

A production version is already being planned for production in 2015 under the condename C292. This car, which will be known as MLC in production, will be built in the US alongside the ML on which it is based.

The MLC is a direct rival to the new BMW X6, its relationship to the ML is similar to the X6’s to the BMW X5. Indeed, previous spy shots have shown the MLC benchmarking against the X6.

Last I checked, from a sales perspective, it won't take much to compete with the X6.

I said it before and I'll say it again, in addition to high end vehicles, one thing Mercedes does exceptionally well is coupes whether true 2 door coupes or the 4 door niche they started, Benz knows how to design a coupe and win buyers over on looks alone.

Hmm, I've been looking forward to seeing this. And I must say I much prefer the outgoing X6 to look at, but between this new Merc and BMW's uglier next-gen X6 it's pretty close... and I'm not sold on either of them to be honest.

.. maybe when the Q6/Q8 comes along!

Also, I meant to add, X6 average annual sales equal about 50% of all Mercedes S, CL, SL, SLS & Maybach sales from last year... You might not like the X6, but Mercedes would be retarded to overlook such easy bolt-on sales.

Not sure this is a vehicle that Mercedes should be investing time and resources. I'd much rather see them continue to dominate the higher-end of the segment by creating a 4-door S-class coupe to complement the CLA and CLS.
