BMW Recalls Almost 500,000 Six Cylinder Models For Engine Defect

German automaker BMW is issuing a worldwide recall of many models of cars with certain six-cylinder gas motors after identifying a problem with a bolt used in the engine.

The company said Friday that a recall started in China last week has now been extended worldwide, affecting 489,000 vehicles, including 156,000 in the U.S.

Ouch - "repairs will take a few hours at most" - at $100/hr labor in US...that's $200 million in repair labor alone, plus parts.

Sounds somewhat familiar to Porsche's GT3 expensive recall. You would think the Germans would be better at engine reliability testing, then again no. Hopefully this is contained, or else a simple part behind expensive future repairs. May be a case of penny pinching gone terribly wrong.

LOL! The customary BMW/German groupies who regularly post in droves have all but vanished after viewing this particular news thread! Of course, only if the recall bulletins specify American or Asian brands in the headlines do the BMW/German car zealots litter the Autospies comment section with derogatory & disparaging remarks.
